Pune-Belgaum-Haliyal-Mapusa-Savantwadi-Kolhapur-Pune planning

What are the best routes for this ?

Pune-Belgaum-Haliyal-Mapusa-Savantwadi-Kolhapur-Pune planning

1. Pune-Belgaum - I guess NH4. But where do we exit for Belgaum city and how long does it take into the city ( say Station area ) from NH4 exit. How long will this leg be ?

2. Belgaum-Haliyal - Belgaum-Khanapur-Bidi-Alnavar-Haliyal ( SH93 ) - How long for this ?

3. Haliyal-Mapusa -- What is the best route for this ?

4. Mapusa-Savantwadi - Nh17?? how long is this?

5. Savantwadi-Kolhapur - What is the best route and how long?

6. Kop-Pune- back in NH4.

I am visiting family and friends and would be stopping over at all these places. I am also travelling with a small kid, so want to know road conditions and time to travel so that he doesn't get too cranky.

Any advice ?

Pune-Belgaum - NH4.

Take the first entry into the city (where the by-pass starts) and get into city, and go towards Khanapur / Londa / Goa.

Belgaum to Haliyal : Belgaum - Khanapur - Londa - Dandeli - Haliyal.
I have done this section a few months back, and most of the road is good. Dandeli to Haliyal the road surface is not smooth, you can still manage decent speeds. 130 kms approx. 4 hrs max.

Haliyal to Mapusa: I'll let some one else give you the routes. NH-4A is Bad.

You may have to go back to Belgaum before going to Mapusa. Check these thread for more information:

Mods, may be merge this thread with the first of two links in this post.

Why go to Londa from Khanapur? Why not Khanpur-Bidi-Alnavar-Haliyal? It appears to be the best route. I believe it is a SH but not sure abt the condition.

Reg Khanapur - Bidi - Alnavar - Haliyal: I am not sure about road conditions between Khanapur-Bidi-Alnavar.

I suggested going via Londa-Dandeli because I have done that road recently.

While Alnavar - Dharwad is also a SH, there were some bad sections on that road. It is possible that the same can be true for Khanapur-Alnavar stretch. Alnavar-Haliyal is about 10km, and the road is quite good.

You can still go ahead with the Khanapur-Alnavar - the stretch is not long, so not a very big risk, if there is one. Alnavar-Haliyal is about 10km, and the road is quite good.

JUda, pls avoid copy-paste from another appln - it retains text formatting. Or, use the 'remove text formatting' button to clean up the text. It's the button with the crossed out 'A' , near the buttons for Bold, Italic & underline.

Hi Juda,

Just did this route. Would recommend it to all. Some patches around Amboli, Ajra are bad but did it in 7 hours including 30 min break.
