I am planning for a long journey from Pune during year end break. Detailed itinerary is given below. Request you all to give me suggestions and advice.

Here goes the plan...

Day 1:

• Drive from pune to Gokarnam (Planning to start early and reach by evening)
• Stay at Gokarnam

Day 2: At Gokarnam - Sight seeing and visit near by places

Day 3: To Murudeshwar and night stay at Murudeshwar

Day 4: From Murudeshwar to Chikmagalure (Night halt at CM)

• Visit Sringeri and Hornadu on the way

Day 5: Visit Belur, Helebedu and Shravanabelgola and reach Bangalore.

I am pretty OK till Muredeshwar. But after that I am not very comfortable. There are may roads and do not know which one to take.

Request you to give me your feed back on the plan and additional details (like route to take, recommendation for hotels, any other place to see near by, alternate places etc are welcome and very much appreciated..)

Route: Murudeshwar - Kundapur - Udupi - Manipal - Hebri - Agumbe - Sringeri - Balehennur - Aldur - CM

You can bypass Udupi and reach Manipal directly. There is a left turn on NH17 (PM Samurai for exact details) before reaching Udupi.
Pls check appropriate thread for stay in CM. There is one here. You can also think for staying in Kudremukh instead of CM.

Hai,

Some information from a friend Sashi who drove through 7 days back from Jaipur to Kerala through Goa.

Roads in South Goa are bumpy, after the border relatively OK till Karwar, bad after Ankola and very very bad throughout Ankola and Kkundapura, improves a little till udipi and is better than before from Udipi till Mangalore.

I did this section in 2005, have the exact milages from Mangalore, Hassan, Sravanbegola, Belur and Halibed etc., if you need the Logs, let me know, its a bit dated as far as road conditions are concerned.

I second as what Abhi has mentioned. But As you have said you wanna cover HORNADU as well. So the other possible route for you is,

Murudeshwar - Kundapur - Udupi - Manipal - Hiriyadka-Karkala - Bajagoli-Kudremukha - Hornadu - Basarikatte - Jayapura - SRINGERI - Jayapura(once again) - Balehonnur - Aldur - Chikmagalur.

Alternate route (you'll miss out Sringeri , Hornadu but can visit Jog falls) is
Murdeshwara - Honnavar- Talguppa - Jog falls - Sagara - Shimoga - Tarikere - Lingadahally - Chikmagalur ( you can visit Kemmangundi it's after tarikere, N also Linganmakki backwaters).

I just reached Bangalore. (First thing I checked is Team-Bhp site ..)

I covered Pune-Belguam-Hubli-Ankola-Gokarna-Muredeshwar-Udipi-Manipal-Hebri.

Hebri-Karkala-Bajagoli-Kudremukh-Kalsa-Hornadu-Sringari-Augmbe-Hebri

Hebri-Agumbe-Koppa-Jaipura-Alduru-CM-Beluru-Halibedu-Beluru

Beluru-Hassan-Shravanabelagola-Nelamangala-B'lore.

I will post detailed travelouge in next few days.

I will be reaching pune by 31st. (Will be going by the regular route)...
