Gents,

there hasn't been any update on this thread in the last year or so.

Which changing road conditions and highways being constructed, is there a change in recommendation

Route 1- 2158 KM
Delhi -> Agra -> Gwalior -> Jhansi ->Sagar-> Narsinghpur -> Chhindwara -> Nagpur -> Nizamabad -> Hyderabad -> Bangalore

Route 2 2284 KM
Delhi -> Jaipur -> Bilwara -> Chittorgarh -> Ratlam -> Dhule -> Shirdi -> Satara -> Kolhapur -> Bangalore

Don't know about all the sections but Nagpur to Hyderabad was done by me quite a few times in July and August. The pandharkavda road was really bad and should be done during day time. I would opt for route two just to avoid this section unless others suggest otherwise.

Couple of things about Route 2.

After leaving Dilli all cities & towns mentioned therein up to Dhule are essentially bypassed. One has to leave the highway to get into any of these.

Between Chittorgarh and Dhule basic facilities are few and spread thin. I would not recommend this route to anyone travelling with families in tow.

Apart from this it is a fast route except for the bit after Chittorgarh due to the limestone mines and cement plants, translates in to about 40 odd kilometres of off roading.

I finished my trip and decided to go with Route 1 for novelty. I would definitely recommend this due to good road conditions (except 200 Km), less traffic and good scenic views.

Default Chandigarh - Bangalore Route Queries !

Hello fellow BHPians,

Planning to drive down to Bangalore from Chandigarh next week.

Jaipur - Ahmedabad - Pune - Bangalore

VS

Delhi - Agra - Nagpur - Hyderabad - Bangalore

Kindly suggest ! This is not really a touristy trip. I just need to be in Bangalore with my car & equipment before the 9th of May thus not looking at any detours on the way. Won't mind having some good food on the way.

Anyone who has done either of these roads recently ?

I have done both the routes recently.

1) Route via Jaipur - Ahmedabad is good all through but it is longer and has few traffic heavy sections. You will have to cross Mumbai too. But no need to worry about pit-stops at all.

2) Route via, Agra - Nagpur is shorter and will be quicker as well. But then there are couple of bad stretches.

Agra - Gwaloir - This will slow you down while crossing towns.

Gwalior - Jhansi: 4L construction has been abandoned and no proper sign boards for diversions. Roads are not in great condition, crossing villages takes time as well. This is the slowest sector between Agra to Bangalore.

50 Kms stretch on the Nagpur - Adilabad stretch will slow you down due to 4L construction, but not bad.

From Narsinghpur, it is advised to take the Chhindwara route which is a good 2L stretch (approx 250 Kms).

Overall, facilities are not great in this stretch, you will have to plan your pit-stops. But doable.

3) Another route that you can consider is Jaipur - Ratlam - Dhule - Shirdi - Pune - Bangalore.

Default Bangalore - Delhi by road

Hi,
I am planning a road trip in mid-April from Bangalore to Delhi and back. The plan approximately as follows -
1) Bangalore to Nagpur (night halt @ NGP)
2) Nagpur to Agra (Night halt @ Agra)
3) Agra sightseeing 1/2 day (halt)
4) Agra to Delhi
5) Delhi (2-3 days)
6) Delhi to Nagpur (night halt @NGP)
7) Nagpur to Bangalore

So I have never driven this far before. So need some advice / tips. My car is an XUV500 and from my little experience of driving Bangalore-Pune/Mumbai often I feel this is do-able. However I am not sure.

Apart from the itinerary , I wonder how the roads are beyond Nagpur especially in MP upto Agra. I am assuming that they are 4 lane at least. Hoping to hear from fellow experienced members.

Did you finally make this trip? If so, please share the route conditions.

Dube ji, the main bone of contention was Jhansi Gwalior and last update 2 months before from a colleague who drove from Noida confirmed it to be better.

I am not sure if you really need to worry about any other stretches beyond Jhansi to Nagpur because it's all good and less to worry except that it's a cattle corridor even today and maintains the status quo.

Further to add, now it's Narsingpur Lakhnadon Mansar Nagpur and not the one via Chindwara to reach Nagpur from Narsingpur because it's all done except very small patch between Seoni and Mansar which too was or still WIP towards 4 lane completion.

But honestly, if condition of roads is your worry on NS corridor, today it should be lesser compared to an year before.

Thanks, Parag! I plan to take the NS corridor for my onward journey and the Western India route for the return. Based on your inputs on the other thread, I plan to take the following for the return leg:

Delhi - Jaipur - Ajmer - Pali - Sirohi - Mehsana - Ahmedabad - Vadodara - Mumbai - Pune - Bangalore

What would be recommended night halt options, given that I'd be traveling with family? I plan to do this in no more than 3 days (2 night halts). Second halt would most probably be Pune but am unable to decide on the first one - Ahmedabad might be bit of a stretch.

Sorry buddy. I never made. I was raring to go but some conditions changed which were so beyond me that I could not make it. The plan is still on the cards , I am wondering when it will pan out.

Missed this one earlier but here you go:

Day 1 - New Delhi to Udaipur - 11-12 Hours, ~ 650 Km
Day 2 - Udaipur to Mumbai (Preferably Vashi) - 14 Hours, ~ 760 Km
Day 3 - Vashi to Bangalore - 15 Hours, ~ 960 Km

The above plans works best for you and is decently spread between 3 days. Ahmedabad for D1 would be a bit of stretch considering inconsistent (rather heavy) traffic conditions and hence any delays caused thereby. Also, you can very well do Pune on Day 1 but I have always noticed that during evening time, crossing Mumbai from Ghodhunder - Thane - Eastern Expressway - Airoli - Belapur is time consuming and taxing. It takes nearly 2 hours to do this and if you are targeting Pune after this, then you will need a lot more patience and energy to reach. Hence, I have always advised to stay at Navi Mumbai areas (closet to Panvel) and start off early next morning towards Pune which helps you beat traffic while on the expressway and also to a great extent saves time driving on Pune bypass till Satara.

However, just in case you are able to do Ahmedabad on Day 1, then here is how the plan should look like:

Day 1 - New Delhi to Ahmedabad - 15-16 Hours, ~950 Km
Day 2 - Ahmedabad to Satara - 13-14 Hours, ~ 760 Km
Day 3 - Satara to Bangalore - 10-11 Hours, ~700 Km
