Had been to Mantralaya between 24th Nov and 26th Nov. Onward journey was via Veldurthi-Kodumur-Yemmiganur and the return was the usual Yemmiganur-Adoni bypass-Gooty. This was my first time via Veldurthi, Kodumur and I did not find any major advantage taking this route. It is about 25 kms longer, you pay an additional toll of Rs.100/=, and you need about 2.5 hrs from Gooty to Manatralaya via this route. My return journey via Adoni also took me about 2.5 hrs from Mantralaya to Gooty. This route will need more time only if you are stuck at the railway crossing, and this too can be avoided by taking a small detour, if you are okay with taking the less-than-2km bad road! I think veldurthi route has lesser distance on village roads compared to default gooty adoni road. It is longer road but I find it more convenient due to very less traffic between veldurthi to kodumur. Only issue I feel is narrow road patches on this road.

Visited Mantralaya on 9th and 10th December. Started at around 5.30AM from Marathahalli and reached Mantralaya at around 12.30 with one 30 min break at Kamat Upachar after Chikkaballapur. Took my favorite Veldurthi road with almost nil traffic.
It was over crowded due to a program between 8-10th of December. Luckily got a room in Dheerendra Lodge run by the matha itself.
Started my return journey on 10th afternoon at around 11.30AM and reached Bangalore by 7.30PM with a more than hour long lunch break at Blue Moon restaurant near Gooty. Took same Veldurthi road back.
NH-7 is under concretization phase at multiple places between airport and K R Puram causing enormous delays :Frustrati

I’ve planned on taking my family to Mantralaya on 5th Jan. Can you guys give the roads to take? Should I take tumkur - chithradurga - hospet - bellary - mantralaya route or any suggestions in relation to route that’s best suited for elders to get good food and bio breaks in between?

Or the route the maps suggest is through Devanhalli - Lepakshi - straight through anantpur and mantralaya.

Bangalore ->Gooty->Pattikonda->Aspari->Adoni->Yemmiganur/Madhavaram-> Mantralayam is the most convenient route

Food and Bio breaks are plenty till Gooty. After that it is 2 lane state highway with no decent hotels except in Adoni. So you may have to pack some food for this stretch. However Gooty->Mantralaya is 120 kms and you can cover it in 2.5 hours. Road is good and traffic is sparse.

Ensure that you take the bypass in Pattikonda and Adoni. At Pattikonda there is a left turn just before entering the city with a board that can be missed. Adoni bypass is clearly marked where you take a right. If you take the bypass you go via Yemmiganur. If you go through the city then you will go via Madhavaram.

Yes, Please take Gooty - Adoni - Yemmiganur route. Avoid Veldurti. Roads via Veldurti are not great - they are very narrow at most of the places and hence eat away your time.

Also, note that there no good veg restaurants after Kamat in Chikballapur.

Don't even daydream about it :D Bellary-Alur-Adoni will put moon surface to shame

Route 1: Bangalore-Gooty-Adoni-Yemmiganur-Mantralayam (~400KM)
Route 2: Bangalore-Gooty-Adoni-Madhavaram-Mantralayam (~409KM)
Route 3: Bangalore-Veldurthi-Kodumur-Yemmiganur-Mantralayam (~425KM + Rs. 100/- extra toll)

I have taken route 3 for my last 10-15 visits and I find it most peaceful and fast (6.5 hours from Marathahalli). There are narrow roads for 8-9KM in between Veldurthi and Kodumur but there is absolutely no traffic.
Route 1 and 2 need some luck due to a railway crossing between Gooty and Adoni. If you are stuck there you may easily lose 30-45min (there is a work around suggested by Sada which I am not aware of). Also Gooty onward routes 1 and 2 will be slow since you will leave NH-7 and enter into the towns/villages. I am bit uncomfortable of village roads since many kids/people will be going around there without caring much about traffic, which needs you to be extra careful. A single accidental scratch to a person in village and you are done by fellow villagers. (if you go through this thread a couple of years back, you will find some incidence reported). So be extra careful with extra village roads. Route 3 has relatively less village roads compared to route 1 and 2.

After trying all 3 routes, I always feel route 3 is a constant time consumer and fast despite extra 25KMs. But this opinion is purely personal and based on personal experience.

How is the condition of NH 167 from Mantralaya to Raichur? Is there any alternate route between the aforementioned places in case it is bad?

I forgot to ask the most important thing - since I've elders travelling with me, can you let me know which is the recommended stay around temple premises? I'm starting on 3rd Jan. Any quick replies would be greatly appreciated.

There are multiple lodges run by Mutt itself.
1. Dheerendra Vasthi Gruha (DVG)
2. Susheelendra Vasathi Gruha (SVG)
3. Suyateendra Vishrathi Nilayam (SVN)

I usually prefer SVN when with my wife and daughter but when elderly person is around I choose between DVG or SVG. There is a shorter route to reach the mutt from backside if you stay at DVG or SVG.

For DVG and SVG please contact the reception (CRO office) at the main entry (near the arch where the 4 roads meet together). But for SVN just go the lodge lobby to get a room.

There are a few very close to Manchalamma temple but unsure if you will get there. (Sarvajna Mandira and some more, again check at CRO office).

Being a weekday for you, there should not be any issue in getting accommodation according to me.

Thanks rajiv. I’ll stick to DVG because I’ve elder people traveling with me. Should I be booking online itself or is it directly meeting with reception and picking up the keys?

If an option of booking online is there, then please do so. I have never been able to get an accommodation in any of these any time. It's always 'full' as per the CRO :Frustrati

But they appear to be full until 6th of January. One more observation I have is they do not expose all rooms online and you may still get a room in DVG when you approach to CRO. Only advantage you have is your trip is on weekday when the crowd is less compared to weekends.
You may ask for DVG specifically when you reach to CRO with a reason of having elderly people with you. But I recommend to keep all the options open.
