Trichy-Tanjore: 4L NH67 Tanjore-Thiruvarur-Nagapattanam: Not sure of the current status. But decent roads. Others can confirm. ECR is always good. |

Sorry I did not make that clear. I meant that last stretch from Nagapattinam to Velankanni. You would be covering that through the ECR (East Coast Road). |

On 19 August 2011, I drove in my Linea on this stretch: Velankanni>Sikkal>Thiruvarur [NH 67]>Thanjavur enroute to Pillayarpatti. The 2-laned and twisty roads were fine. The 4-laned Thanjavur bypass was superb!:) |

I just came back from Velankanni. Below is the current condition. 1) Bangalore to Namakkal - NH 4 Lane road (Good) 2) Namakkal to Trichy - SH (Village Road - OK) Take the Kulithalai road. Its just OK, but avoid musiri road. Its in pathetic condition, full of pot holes & road work is also in progress. 3) Trichy to Tanjavur - NH 4 Lane road (Good) 4) Tanjavur to Mannargudi - SH ( Village Road - Good) 5) Mannargudi -Thiruthooraipoondi - ECR-Velankanni) - SH (Village Road -Narrow, but good) Its a little long route, roughly around 490 kms, but a better one compared to the other options. |

Hi, When you say its a long route (490 kms), is it one way? Google tells me the distance (BLR to Vellankani) is about 355 kms, hence confused... 490 compared to 355 is too long a route (even if its better road), especially since roads till Namakkal (250 kms) are definitely best you can hope for. |

That was exactly my thought too. The 4lane NH 67 continues as a decent two lane. Though I am not sure if any work has started on this stretch. |
