Its going to be very very hot.
I studied in REC Calicut which is very near waynad.
April is dry season when even drinking water is a precious commodity.
Mosquitos will make your life hell, and you will be sweating all the time in hot and humid weather.
If you can go when monsoons start, it will be an enchanting experience.
Normally End may rains start so that is a good time.

Here are some links which would throuw some more light in the kinda places in Wayanad :

Vythiri Resort Wayanad - Nature Resorts North Kerala - Eco Hotel India (offers some tree houses as well .... at one of their properties)

Green Magic Nature Resorts Kerala wildlife rain forest Tree houses kerala Eco lodges eco tourism Vythiri wayanad south india

Welcome to Hammock Leisure Holidays (check out the hotels in Wayanad under the "hill station" section in Kerala.

http://www.fringeford.com/index.htm

As for the route map, pick up the south India road map from the Automobile Association office on St. Marks Road (if you do not want to spend on GPS).

Happy holidays.

1) I would suggest Stream Valley Cottages unless you want a more expensive resort sort of accommodation like Vythri Resorts. We paid around Rs.2500 per night for a cottage which was pretty decent and comfortable.

2) Don't miss the following places - Kuruva Island, Soochippara Waterfalls, Banasura Sagar Dam, Pookot Lake and Muthunga. Also don't miss Chembra Peak and Edakkal Cave if you like trekking. There are quite a lot of places to see in Wayanad and you need at least 4 full-days to cover all of them.

3) As said before, April is not the right time to visit Wayanad. You could visit this place either during the begining of the monsoon or at the end of monsoon. I went to wayanad in December end.

Hope this helps.

Wayanad is not a hill station like ooty or munnar.. its comparitively warm. so april means you can expect temperature similar to that of bangalore

I had gone to wayanad in november and stayed in vythiri resorts..

if you have the budget..close your eyes and go to this place.. about 3 km from main road(and 3 kms of no road at all) but if you are planning to travel too much, then this is the place..

checkout their website vythiriresorts.com (Vythiri Resort Wayanad - Nature Resorts North Kerala - Eco Hotel India)

April is a good time for visiting Thopletty, the Wild Life Sanctuary in Wayanad. Sightings will be high.

The roads are in good condition, went last month mid.
They have been freshly laid between Gundalpet to Muthanga which was the only problem section till some time back.

Road condition from Bangalore is brilliant. I did Bangalore-Kalpetta 295 Kms in 4 hours straight, in my Fiesta 1.6
Gundlupet to Kerala border, expect average road for a few Kms, but Karnataka side of the roads have improved too.
