@devrajman
For Avalanche and Emerald lakes you dont need any permission. You need them for Upper Bhavani and the related catchement area.
You can drive to the point where one side Avalanche while the other side is Emerald. They are separated by bridge. This I think is the road
which leads to Destiny Farm stay; the property run by little earth group (sherlock, kings cliff etc).

The place is more like a picnic spot. I dont remember seeing any place for a trek around that region. Maybe one should go deeper.

The following is the location I am referring to :

The train tickets can be booked on IRCTC. book the first class.

- 1 day to Avalanche and Emerald lakes, Troute fishing hatchery
- 1 day for Ooty sight seeing
- Half day to Pykara. Rest half rest/shopping
- 1 day Masinagudi

Instead of Sathy, I would suggest, take the regular 4-lane till Avinashi and then go via Annur to Mettupalayam. Its much faster. Truck traffic on Mettur roads is much higher than what it used to be.

Sathy-Mettupalayam road is typically good. But I dont know about current status.
Thanks for the info, we are still working on the plans
Googling, I found that Mudumalai is open for Safari only between 6-9am and 3-6pm. Would it be possible to pre book somewhere near ooty ?

During my college days (in 1997), we did the Masinagudi route in a 407 ( made like a van by Madurai van builders). you can imagine the decibel levels near the engine........

I have no idea on jungle safari booking at Ooty. Need to check who is aware about District Forest Office functioning.
Sorry for that.

re: Bangalore - Mysore - Ooty : Route Queries

What is latest road condition to Ooty, like last week updates? Is it raining heavily?

I am planning to be there this weekend, but haven't done any reservations. Will I get reservations if I go there directly? many hotels I called claim they are full!

thanks in advance for the responses

Hi diogo, no idea about Gundelpet - Masanagudi - Kallatti route, or Gundelpet - Gudalur Route. But, Gudalur - Ooty road is good, with small patch ups, which might go unnoticed. Road is not to be worried upon, and doesn't consume more time. Just that its not in perfect shape.

And, B'lore - Gundelpet, via Mysore, and via kanakpura-kollegal-chamrajanagara is also in good condition.

I did Bangalore-Mysore-Masinagudi-Kalghatty-Ooty 20 days back. The road is in good shape.

On return, came via Ooty-Paikara-Gudalur-Chamarajnagar. Only concern is few kms before Gudalur which can be negotiated easily during say travel. This route is much scenic compared to other.

I'd recommend to take Ooty - Kalhatty on the way up, and via gudalur while coming back. The Kalhatti route is more enjoyable and safe going up, while via gudalur, its the same going up or down.

Me too recommend Kalghatty while going up. You may also keep some buffer time for sight seeing while taking Gudallur route.

re: Bangalore - Mysore - Ooty : Route Queries

Anyone did Bangalore-Kanakapura-Chamarajanagar-Kollegal-Gudlupet recently?

Thinking of taking this route on the return to BLR.

Will take SH17 to Ooty.

Hi diogo, I did a Gundelpet-Chamrajanagar-Kollegal-Malavalli-Kanakpura-Bangalore yesterday.

Apart from the slightly rough patch from Chamrajanagar till Gundelpet, the road is very good.

Did the Kanakpura - Malavalli - Kollegal - BR Hills stretch last Saturday, roads upto Kollegal are in quite a good condition
