You can take the Bangalore-Salem-Avinashi bypass-Annur-Mettupalayam-Coonoor route, Nano should be Able to handle it.

Onward route are you going via Ooty ? If so theppakadu-gudalur about 7-10km is bad but manageable, bigger problem may be traversing right through Ooty to go towards coonoor. Traffic inside Ooty and all the way down on the other side of ghats towards coonoor can be heavy and slow moving.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore - Ooty : Route Queries

Thanks again NPV. We have decided to use BLR-Mysuru-Bandipur-Theppakadu-ooty-coonoor route and the regular via Avinashi annur bypass route. One for onward and another for return. Considering your feedback, I may use the Avinashi route as our check in time is 12 noon. Here is the dilemma - I will be returning back on Friday. Our check out time is 11am. We will start around 10am. Using the regular route, I will be home by 6pm. But the other via mysuru will have more traffic I believe! I guess OOoty-Coonoor traffic will be less compared to our Bangalore traffic

The Masinagudi-Kalhatty ghat road seem to be open now. My colleague came back from Ooty yesterday evening through this route. Traffic was being allowed both ways, she said.

Roads are all good except from Mysore to Nanjanagud. It was pathetic. It took me 3 hours to reach Coonor from Bandipur

Mysore to Nanjangud, 4 lane work with median under progress. Work is going on in a good pace. Another 3 months we can expect a hassle free 4 lane road on this stretch.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore - Ooty : Route Queries

Friends,

Just wanted to reconfirm on Bandipur gates closing time for traffic. Is it still 9 pm to 6 am?
Me and my friend are planning for a Ooty trip with family in last week of March and leaving bangalore at 3 pm. Hope we can cross Bandipur before they close gates and reach Ooty via Masinagudi route 36 hair pin bends by 9 pm.

Anyone recently traveled via Masinagudi hair pin bends after 6 pm? Any pointers or inputs that will be helpful?

-Ravi

Yes, It is still 9pm-6am, It would be safe to plan to cross by 8 pm. There will typically be a rush to cross and you would not want to cut it too close. With a 3PM start, assume you drive non stop, you should be able to comfortably cross by 8.

Re: Bangalore - Mysore - Ooty : Route Queries

Hello BHPians,

I am travelling to Ooty on Mar 28, planning to stay for a couple of nights.
Anyone travelled recently-could you please suggest which is the best route? I stay off the Kanakapura main road in Konanakunte, next to Khodays/to-be-Prestige Falcon city. I have been reading these threads carefully and based on it am thinking on-

1. Kanakapura-Kollegal-Chamarajanagar-Gundlupet-Theppakadu-Masinagudi-Kalhatty-Ooty.

2. NICE Road-Mysore-Nanjanagudu-Gundlupet-Theppakadu-Masinagudi-Kalhatty-Ooty

I am planning to leave by 5:45/6:00AM.

On my return have to visit a few of my relatives in Mysore, Aniketana Road. So I am guessing I dont have much a choice than

1. Pykara-Gudalur-Gundlupet-Mysore-Channapatna-NICE road

2. (If I'm lucky) Kalhatty-Masinagudi-Gundlupet-Mysore-Channapatna-NICE road.

So pretty much going thro the 36 Hair-pin or the worse road Gudalur are my only options is it? I am planning to leave Ooty by 12:00 noon. Anybody travelled these roads very recently please help me plan my roadmap

It'll just be my wife and me, I drive a City V AT 2011! I am a little concerned about the huge craters/potholes as you'll know how low the city is. But its just 2 of us with little luggage in the boot. So if the Gudalur road is OK for my car and I dont get lucky to come through the Kalhatty road!
Thanks in advance!
