Hubli-Karwar

I will be driving down to Karwar from Hubli this weekend. Planning to take the Hubli-Kalghatki-Yellapur-Ankola-Karwar route as of now. Has anyone travelled on this route recently?

I have done the Karwar - yellapur - hubli -bangalore just last week and the road from karwar to Hubli is awesome...

I did it in my corsa so there is no need for high ground clearance vehuicles and you can easily average at 90-100 KM/HR.

Just avoid this route at night as the mining trucks ply mostly in the night time and you would have serious problems with them. Day should be fine.!!

Have a safe one!!

Condition of NH 218,204 and 59

Iam planning a road trip to Bijapur. As the NH13 is not in good shape, alternate being via Hubli ( 50 odd Km more NH4 and NH 218) or Via Kolhapur (Nh4 & NH 204 upto pandharpur)

how is the condition og NH 218 and 204. which would be better in terms of facilities like rest /food ?

Is NH 59 safe to drive between Indore and Ahmedabad? is surface good?

Any help on the latest condition is greatly appreciated

Re: Condition of NH 218,204 and 59

The best route to Bijapur is either from Hubli via Nargund & Bagalkot. Alternative is to go to Hattargi (between Belgaum & Kolhapur) and go via Gokak to Bagalkot & Bijapur.

Do not take the Bijapur-Pandharpur road, it is perpetually in bad condition.

NH59 is not a great road, it was one of the worst highways in the region, made worse now because they have started widening work. Earlier, it used to be unsafe after Dahod onto Jhabua, etc, but no safety issues nowadays, I am told.

Quote many folks have mentioned that NH218 is on good shape. Nice 2L road.
Hence its better to go all the way till Hubli and then latch on to this road.

Re: Condition of NH 218,204 and 59

I have to go to pandharpur. If i take NH218 then i have to via bijapur. last march when i traveled only small stretch of about 30 km was bad between bijapur and pandharpur.
is it better to go vis kolhapur and nh204 ( how was condition of nh 204)

goggle maps show an alternative bangalore-hubli-hattargi-gotur (nh4) -chikkodi-kagvad- miraj bypass nh 204.
this route is 50 km less than via kolhapur

Belgaum-Hubli : Beautiful 4L! (100km/NH4) (1.5 hours)
Hubli-Ankola : Very Nice 2L (NH63/150km) (3 hours)
Ankola-Karwar (30) (40 minutes)
Karwar-Goa (100km heavy traffic) 3 hours depending where in Goa.

Eating places:
Ankola : Kamat
Karwar : Amruth

@DRIVEPASSION,

If the destination is Goa, then a simpler option is NH4A (Khanapur/Anmod)
or Amboli/Sawantwadi.

Do you have any specific reasons to go via Hubli/Ankola? Its quite roundabout.

Ampere,

How is :

1. The Khanapur - Anmod - Goa road condition

2. Status of Mining Trucks on the route

3. Travel Time from Belgaum to Goa via Khanapur/Anmod

@DRIVEPASSION I think most of your questions got answered on the Goa thread.
So I dont need add any comments. HVK/AP have answered most of them.
To summarize most folks prefer the Amboli route from Kolhapur.

Since you plan to come via NH218 (Solapur/Bijapur/Hubli):
Option 1: Istead of coming to Hubli, divert from Bagalkot to Lokapur-Yargatti-Belgaum.
Take the Amboli/Sawantwadi route to Goa. This would help if you play to stay in North Goa.

Option 2: Else If you plan to stay in South Goa take Hubli/Ankola option.

Re: Query on NH218 : How good is the Bijapur-Hubli-Karwar stretch?

Hi Folks!

A friend is travelling to Karwar this weekend, and asked me if I could help him out with routes over here.
He has 2 routes in mind

1. Belgaum - Hubli - Karwar

2. Belgaum - through Belgaum city - Londa Ghat - Khanapur - Karwar

He understands that roads might be bad on the 2nd route, but as it would be more scenic (plz correct if wrong) he doesn't mind taking it still.

He plans to leave Pune on Saturday afternoon, stay the night over at Belgaum and leave early Sunday morning on that stretch.

Please advise on current conditions.

Cheers!
