Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

Thanks guys, will take this. I did not know of this road, I was using the roadmap from the Palace estate website-now looking at the Coorg district road map from wikipedia, this road is also visible.
Am planning to go to Talacauvery also--any route suggestions for that ? Map shows one rod via Kakkabe, another shows via Napoklu/Appangala.

Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

Search in this thread -> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...-route-10.html You may get more details.

If you are driving to Talacauvery from Bangalore, then route is via Madikeri and Bhagamandala

Thanks
Rajesh

The "Bangalore to Kannur" thread (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...fo-needed.html) is the one that generally contains the most recent information about the Virajpet - Bangalore stretch.

As of now Virajpet-Ammathi-Siddhapura-Maldare-Periyapatna-Hunsur-Mysore-Bangalore seems to be the most preferred route. Mostly in good condition except a 10-12 kms rough stretch just before joining SH88 at Periyapatna. (And of course the trafficky, speedbreaker ridden SH17 which can be bad to traverse especially at peak hours)

Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

Hi folks,

What is my best option for Mysore-Virajpet, in view of current road conditions?

A. Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Virajpet
B. Hunsur - Periyapatna - Siddapura - Virajpet
C. Hunsur - Periyapatna - Kushalnagar - Siddapura - Virajpet

Also, any idea on the Srirangapatna-Eliwala stretch? Is it still preferable over the Mysore RR while coming from/going to Bangalore?

Thanks in advance.

imo,Hunsur->Periyapatna->Anechowkur forest check post->Gonikoppal->Virajpet
this way you avoid the WIP section between Hunsur and Anechowkur CP.

Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

As per latest reports Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Virajpet is good except few kilometers under construction stretch.

You got the answer from above posts. Option A is the best. In this one itself, we have Hunsur - Gonikoppal or Hunsur - Periyatapatna - Gonikoppal. now a days people are suggesting the HUnsur - Gonikoppal direct route is fine except for few kilometers.

But at any cost, do not take your Option B. Periayapatna- Siddapura is horrific.

Thanks for all your help guys! Did the trip over last weekend - took route "A" for onward journey. As metioned by some of you, the route is excellent except for about 8 km of bad road through the forest stretch. Came back via "C" as I wanted to visit Kushalnagar on the way back - this route is also good, albeit longer by about 25 km. Took the Mysore RR both ways so not sure about the condition of S'patna-Eliwala stretch.

Cheers...

Here is a pic each of the "bad" stretch and the silky smooth tarmac thereafter!

Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

Can anyone give a latest update on the Hunsur Gonikoppal Virajpet route. I'm travelling this Friday. Which of the following is best
A. Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Virajpet
B. Hunsur - Periyapatna - Siddapura - Virajpet
C. Hunsur - Periyapatna - Kushalnagar - Siddapura - Virajpet

Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

As per people who had traveled to Kannur last week, option A is better one. Even the bad stretch (8Kms) is quite manageable as it was leveled recently (again from Kannur thread)..

Re: Bangalore to Virajpet

Did the Bangalore Virajpet trip this weekend. Used the Hunsur Gonikoppal Virajpet route both ways. As reported here, its worthwhile using this route. There is 8km of bad stretch - no potholes but very slushy due to incessant rains. Best to avoid the stretch on 2 wheelers. But not a problem for any 4 wheeler. Otherwise the roads are excellent.

We went via Siddapur (as the resort advised us to!) and the road was bad although a very scenic route, it took us three hours from the Bangalore Mysore Highway. Another part of our group took the Gonikoppal route and shaved off 30 minutes.

We returned via Gonikoppal. Only the forest section is bad, i.e. slippery. Since I had stablilty control, it was not a problem except for the ASC light flashing now and then

We took two hours to reach the Bangalore Mysore highway as a result
