Last weekend, we went to Kollur and came back via Udupi, Sringeri. Overall road condition is good with sparse traffic. About 20 KM stretch between Sringeri and Chikmagalur is very bumpy due to patchwork. Especially the stretch between Balehonnur and Aldur. Aldur to Chikmagalur to Belur is okay.

Near Agumbe sunset point, watch out for big potholes on the cemented road.

We enquired with the Bhagwati Forest Guest house but theres too many procedure to do such as sending DD and all plus they said no boozing

So wanted to know if theres any alternate accomodation availalble in Kudremukh?

I would suggest you to take lodges at Hornadu, plenty of them available.
Some resorts which come to my mind around Kudremukha region are,
Silent valley resorts, Kalasa
Upasana @ Samse Calendar
Else check out this website

I have enquired with Upasana and theres no boozing allowed.

Silent valley seems too expensive for 1 night stay.

I heard about some hotel chandan in Mahaveera Road, Kalasa, any ideas?

Very recently Roameo (tbhp handle) had stayed in Kalasa, you can get in touch with him.

I am planning following trip during Oct and I request details on route, distance and road conditions for following sections. Also, if you are familiar with good accommodation at end of each leg, please suggest (I will be traveling with family).

1. BLR - Horanadu

2. Horanadu - Sringeri - Chickmagalur

3. Chickmagalur - Hassan

4. Hassan - BLR [I am familiar with this section :-) ]

Thanks,

Re: Bangalore - Goa.... which route?

Dear All,

It is time again to visit Goa for this year's vacation. This time however I would not to going to Goa directly. The plan is to leave on 8th May, early morning by 5am.

Bangalore --> Horanadu --> Sringeri --> Udupi (Night Halt)

The first days plan is to have darshan & lunch at Horanadu. Visit Sringeri for puja next and stay back at Udupi. Next morning I'll visit Krishna temple at Udupi, Murudeshwara & reach Goa by evening.

Udupi --> Murudeshwara --> North Goa

My queries listed below,
1) How is the route condition on the first day of journey (Bangalore, horanadu, Sringeri to Udupi)?
2) Can someone help me out with decent & clean hotels to stay in Udupi. Along with the phone number if possible?
3) On the return journey which is best route currently from North Goa to Bangalore?
4) Any other tips or advices for this trip?

I shall be travelling in my Optra Magnum along with wife & 2 kids.

Thanks in advance.
Manoj

There is a Valley View (By Fortune Group). Its costly but I think its good.
Send a PM to @Samurai. He will know the place (Manipal/Udupi) inside out.

Yes its in Manipal. But that is hardly 5-7km from the Udupi temple.
So from an access point of view that should not be a problem.

I am not sure of the Horanadu-Sringeri stretch, but I did Udupi - Agumbe - Sringeri - Balehonnur - Chikmagalur last month and the roads are quite decent.

- Udupi - Hebri - Agumbe is quite patchy and bumpy. Nothing to write home about, but it is not unbearable or anything.
- Agumbe - Balehonnur / Sringeri is patchy in stretches but is manageable.

to summarize, Sringeri -> Udupi is quite good and you can finish the distance in a couple of hours. From what I have heard - Kudremukh - Horanadu roads were quite bad recently. Not sure if the re-tarring has happened there yet. Perhaps Fauji / Ampere can update on that
