Asking the Kollur question once again. If you want to reach in one day, which is best option?
BLR Shimoga Tirthahalli - Hosanagadi-Vande-Kollur?
As per what I went through this forum, the route via Shimoga seems to be better as compared to the one via CKM.
I do Tirthahalli in five and half hours in my Scoprio. After Tirthahalli it is Nagara - Nittur - Kollur. Not sure about te road condition after Tirthahalli via Nittur. It is the shortest and should not take more than one and half hour.

Ampere,After Shimoga, continue to Ayanur and then via Hosanagara,Nagara and Nittur, you can reach Kollur.
Thats the best route
What is the approx travel time for reaching Kollur from BLR ?. Thought of doing a trip to Kollur sometime next month.
Regards,
Gopi
I would say at least 8 to 10 hours with breaks. It may or less depending on your speed. Distance is about 400-420Km
Planning to drive to Kollur on April 2nd.
As usual looking to take the following route,
Bangalore - Tumkur - Shimoga - Ayannur - Ripponpet - Hosanagara - Nagara - Kollur.
Any recent updates, mainly the stretch between Ayannur and Kollur?
Hello guys,
I'm planning to leave on April 3rd due to the world cup final on 2nd :) Likely to be a 3-day affair mainly just for the temple. Plan to take the most popular route listed here that kavu75 stated in previous post as well.
Will be traveling with a 4-year old and need suggestions for good breakfast/lunch/snack spots enroute both ways. Plan to leave around 5/6am both ways. Any help appreciated.
PS: Since 4th is Ugadi, any special traffic concerns we should keep in mind on this route (big festivities and roadblocks etc)?
Thx.
Just returned from my Kollur trip.
Bangalore(Marthahalli ORR) - Shivamoga stretch:
I started at Saturday 5.30 am and took ORR towards Hebbal and then to Tumkur road. Caught up in a huge traffic block near MES road, exactly from rail cross to Tumkur road, wasted more than 45 minutes there, regret not taking the nice road.
Then excellent road till Tumkur as usual. The bye pass road to NH 206 is also in good condition, then a very small bad stretch in the beginning. After this its a good drive till shivmoga except some small stretch near to Tiptur and another small town.
Excellent bye pass between Bhadravati and Shivmoga.
Shivamoga to Ayanur - Excellent road.
Ayanur to Hosanagara - Decent drive, but some bumpy stretch in between
Hosanagara to Nagara - Mix of good and bad, some really bad bumpy stretch in between.
Nagara to Kollur - Again its mix of good and bad with some bumpy stretch, but better than the previous section.
Reached Kollur at around 2pm, with some 30 minutes break.
Return, started from Kollur at Sunday 9.30 am and reached ORR at 5.30 pm, with a 1 hour lunch break. This time i took nice road from Tumkur road.
Just did the Bangalore-Kollur journey 3 days back. Here's the update:
1. Bangalore-Tumkur-Chitradurga - Excellent as expected
2. Chitradurga-Shimoga - Excellent. Railway crossings could slow down.
3. Shimoga-Thirthahalli - Good, watch out for unmarked rumblers
4. Thirthahalli-Nagara-Nittur-Kollur - Very bad. Most of it is either badly patched roads or potholed roads. Very few good parts. Nittur-Kollur ghat is extremely bad, narrow, dusty, and risky with reckless jeeps coming up the opposite side.

Did you return the same way?
Or you came via Haladi? If yes, was that condition better ?

No, I had some work in Manipal, so I took the Manipal-Agumbe-route on return. I've updated the other thread
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post2679793
To add to my original post, the Bangalore-Kollur journey took me 10.5 hours with 1 hour break. Bangalore-Chitradurga-Shimoga was done in just 5 hours (including a 30 mins break).

I assume you took the Kollur-Jadkal-Vandse-Hemmadi-Kundapura-Udupi-Manipal way?
The only missing piece in your road condition updates is that on the stretch from Kollur to Manipal (?)
Nice practice to post updates when one returns from travel - very useful. Thank you!

Yes, but bypassing Udupi.

I thought that was too small a stretch that anyone cared about stupid:.
Anyway, Kollur to Kundapura highway intersection was good most of the places, with patched parts in between.
Kundapura-Manipal - Dusty, with roads being widened, so constant switching between the sides. Partly 4 lane, partly 2 lane, mostly in good condition. Private buses from the opposite site drive recklessly and overtake in the 2 lane parts, and don't care whether you have space to your left.
Ayanur-Hosanagara was really in a bad shape in December 2011.
It's better to go until Anantapura and then proceed to hosanagara.

Planning a Gokarna -Murudeshwara - Kollur trip from Bangalore .
The current route selected is
1. Bangalore - Tumkur - Hubli - Gokarna - ( Stay in Gokarna for a day )
2. Gokarna - Murudeshwara - ( Stay in Murudeshwara for a day )
3. Visit Kollur and return to Bangalore .
Whats not clear is how to return back from Kollur to Bangalore ? Should i go back to Murudeshwara and then return via Honnavar or is there any other route directly from Kollur which i can return to Bangalore . Is it worth going to mangalore and then come back to blore ? I am driving a Scorpio .
