Bangalore-Jog falls & back. Is this the right time to visit?.

Hi,

This is not the usual route query. I know the route to jog falls.

I'am planning to do this trip during 2nd & 3rd of May. I need few inputs.

1) Whether is this the right time to go over there?
2) Is there any water at all as this is the peak summer?
3) Planing to stay overnight there at Jog falls. So how about hotels in and around that place?
4) Are there any other places that can be covered in my 2 days & 1 night trip to Jog falls.

Do give your inputs on the above.

AFAIK, Jog reduces to a trickle this time of the year so you are better off going somewhere else.

This is not the right time to visit Jog as the water level will be too low. Best time to visit Jog is between July to september. On weekends water from the dam nearby (it is called Linganamakki dam or sharavati dam) is released. But still at this point of time the water level will be too low.

To stay you have lodges Mayura, KPCL guest house (can get it if you know any one working in BESCOM). Room rent is decent enough. Around 300 to 500. Food is not that great.

Thanks for inputs guys. Was thinking to go somewhere in this long weekend. (2nd to 4th May). Not able to get ideas. Checked Yercaud/Munnar-No Hotel rooms available (already booked); Ooty/Kodai/Coorg/Mysore-already seen. Anybody suggest a good place something like a hill station?

Try Coorg. Lot of good home stays available in exotic locations. check out here for bookings Welcome to Home Stay Kodagu

Nagarhole is another option. You need to plan well in advance, as the JLR will be booked out almost every weekend.

Chikkamagalur is also within a long weekend range. Read Samurai's thread on it for the place.

1) Whether is this the right time to go over there?
Nope. Go during August.
2) Is there any water at all as this is the peak summer?
Hardly any. But if you want to walk down to the foot of the falls this is the right time.
3) Planing to stay overnight there at Jog falls. So how about hotels in and around that place?
Shimoga/Sagar.
4) Are there any other places that can be covered in my 2 days & 1 night trip to Jog falls.
Sakrebail near shimoga. Its an elephant training camp. You can bathe the elephants. Kids will enjoy.
Gajnur dam near shimoga.

Now time has come to visit Jog Falls, Its much better now with heavy rains.

If it rains heavily for another 2 weeks, reservoir migth get filled fully and more water would be released.

If someone wants to do adventure trekk and site seeing do let me know around Sirsi I can take or guide you guys to visit wonderfull places like hills, water falls so on.

Ravi.

Srini,
There is no much facilities to stay overnite in Jog. Better club Jog falls with another trip.
My suggession would be something like staying in Gokarna / Murudeshwar / Sirsi (ravibhat knows some scenic places there) / Kudremukh. Leave early morning from there towards bangalore via NH206.
You can do 2 stuffs:
1) Visit Talguppa Railway Station (famous for Rail Car) near Sagar.
2) Visit Jog Falls

And return Bangalore by night.

From Jog we need to drive around 60km to Sirsi via siddapur.

Around Sirsi list of places you can visit:

1. Unchalli Falls: 40km (decent small curvy road via siddapur or kumta road)
2. Bennehole Falls 40km (very difficult trekk of 4km needed in the thick forest via kumta road)
3. Yaana (50km around 4km trekk needed in rainy season via hegadekatte)
4. Sahasra Linga (10km from sirsi via yellapur road)
5. Magod Falls (70km from Sirsi via yellapur) and sunset point
6. Saatodi Falls (90km via yellapur)
7. shivaganga falls (40km via hulekal - vanalli)
8. gudavi bird Sanctury (50km via banavasi )

There are more places, however best season would be after rains say around october but it depends how type rainy season that particular year!

Please note in rainy season one enemy in these forest would be leeches everywhere.

You can find more details in my travelogue http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...-pictures.html

Regards,

Ravi.

Re: Bangalore-Jog falls & back. Is this the right time to visit?.

A good time to visit Jog Falls may actually be this summer and there will be water flow due to a recent incident!

Quote:
Due to a fire at the Sharavathi hydel plant, water is being released to Gerusoppa plant, which is down the river and passes through the falls, causing the falls to come alive.
