i am planning to buy a car from delhi this month and want to drive it down to indore..

This weekend, I am driving from Bombay to Gwalior on NH3 via Indore, so I will give you some feedback.

We traveled on NH 3 till on this Christmas. Here is a brief report on route condition:
Etawah - Gwaliar (It doesn't apply to Delhi travelers though) 116 kms. Extremely bad road.

Gwaliar - Shivpuri
Good 2 lane road, but expect bumps here n there, also potholes in last 30-40 kms when going from Gwaliar side.

Shivpuri - Guna - Beora - Indore
Good 2 lane road, Occasional bumps / potholes specially near/in towns. heavy truck traffic, occasional traffic jam sort of, or long dead slow moving ques of trucks (we faced it 2 times between Gwaliar- Shivpuri - Guna).

Road gets better after Dewas near Indore. Indore by pass is nice new express type road.

These are very general observations. We'll soon have sharp observations from Kumar sir as he told.

also, i want to know how much time is expected from delhi to indore. can it be done in one day. (dont prefer night driving.

I frequently do Delhi - Jaipur and it generally takes me 3.5 - 4 hrs on monday mornings (including a 15-20 min stop at McDonalds Manesar).

Also, I recently did Jaipur - Chittorgarh - Neemuch via NH8 and NH79 and it took me 5 hrs without any break. The roads are pretty good and traffic is scarce after ajmer; you will only slow down for paying tolls.

Thus, if you decide to go via jaipur:

Day 1: Delhi (~6 am) - Chittorgarh / Nimbahera
Day 2: Chittorghar / Nimbahera - Indore

waking up an old thread but need an urgent advice. i would be travelling to indore tomorrow and need suggestion on the route to be taken from delhi to indore.
we have planned on del -jaipur-chittorgarh-neemuch ratlam route.
we have two other options
del-jaipur-kota-jhalawar-dewas-indore.
del-agra-gwalior-shivpuri-indore.

please advice on the best route as we plan to travel the whole strech in one go.

Hey fellas, planning a similar drive from Noida - Indore and was considering doing Chittorgarh - Ratlam - Indore drive. Is it still not advisable or have conditions changed?

yes, my father did the trip and the road condition is decent and this should be the route you should choose.

When i drive down to Ranthambhore from Gurgaon taking -

Gurgaon - Dharuhera - Alwar - Bandikui - Sikandra - Sawai Madho pur - Ranthambhore

I see signage for Indore also on the Mega Highway project - dont know the road conditions, etc - but the road till Sawai Madhopur is excellent on route.

Has anyone travelled to Indore on this route? How are the roads after Sawai Madhopur?

Although i've done this route long time back in 2008 however i would like to know about the latest and the best route from Delhi to Indore ( MP ). I'm planning to do this non-stop. Here are some more details about the road trip

Car - Tata Safari ( only 1000 kms done )
Destination - Delhi to Indore
Day/Date of travel - Monday ( 16th April )
Time - Around 5:00 am or 6:00 am
Travellers - 2

QUERIES

Best route ?
Good roads ( even if its little longer )
Approximate time that it would take ?
Number of tolls/approximate expenses on toll charges

The best route as per me :

Delhi-Jaipur-Chittorh-Nimbahera-Neemuch-Ratlam-Lebad-Indore.

The route is 4L all the way till Lebad.

Delhi-Jaipur is 4-L NH8. (May haves issues with diversion due to 6-lane conversion)
Jaipur-Kishangarh-Chittorh-Neemuch-Lebad is NH79 which is full 4-lane.

Since you go via Ratlam/Jaipur, there is a slight increase in distance.
But that is fine, as its 4-lane all the way.
