Re: Monsoons - Road Condition Update

Hi guys, can anyone update the situation on the roads and rains in Mumbai ? I need to go to Santacruz Airport on Monday morning, driving from Nasik. Is it safe to drive down to the airport considering the news of waterlogging in various parts of the city ?

If its okay to drive, what roads should I avoid inside Mumbai. Please suggest which route I should take within Mumbai to get from the Eastern E.way to Western E.way

Thanks,
PuntoMania

No problem with rains. But Bombay rains can be unpredictable. Route to airport has only one place where there is some minor water-logging (near Powai), but it is not serious. The only other way you may affected is because of traffic jams near the Airport.

The route I suggest is to turn off EEH at Kanjur Marg, go via Powai all the way to Jogeswari on WEH and then take WEH to Airport. Here is a Google Maps rendition of the suggested route:

Just came back from this route (Pune - Bangalore).

Also did Bangalore - Tirupati - Bangalore via Chitoor bypass.

Overall road conditions are good.

Re: Monsoons - Road Condition Update

Any info on the current conditions of the road to Goa? From Pune that is.
Amboli -Sawantwadi route or Belgaum route. Information on either of the two would be helpful. Also, how's the NH17 from say Warandha / Tamhini?

It is heavy rains on the Konkan coast and expect the Amboli ghats to face occasional landslides (it has already shut down once earlier this monsoon). In comparison, the road via Belgaum & Molem do not have landslides.

I would avoid Tamhini since I heard that the roads after MUlshi have already cracked up.

Re: Monsoons - Road Condition Update

I came back yesterday from goa.

Ajra-amboli is in better condition,
amboli-sawantwadi is in good condition except the place where landslide occurred in june this year.
There is a board mentioning the road closure between 6pm to 6am but practically it is not imposed,
so you can drive after 6pm from amboli to sawantwadi.
Due the construction of bridge near Banda, road at that place is somewhat chaotic and potholed.

The landslide and the road at amboli ghat.

Re: Monsoons - Road Condition Update

@AP: So, from the occassional potholes, the road is in good condition for a Sedan? Barring the landslide place of course.
Also, any traffic jams encountered enroute?

Absolutely no problem with Amboli route.

There was little traffic jam near the waterfall in the ghat and thats it.

Hi Ashish,

Did you click any pictures of your drive? I remember driving on Amboli ghat at similar time two years back and we were virtually driving under canopy of water falls!!!! It was too good to be true. Unfortunately, the battery of camera had died and we could not click. The one taken in cell pphone were not good.

Pls share if you had taken any pics.

Re: Monsoons - Road Condition Update

I would like to know the road conditions on the Bangalore - Shimoga - Jog - Karwar - Goa route, in light of the recent heavy rains. If somebody has recently taken that route, please update

Re: Monsoons - Road Condition Update

Today visited famous Sri Ananthapadmanabha temple at Kumbla (Kasaragod district,Kerala). From Mangalore for me, it took almost 2 hours to cover a distance of 40 km to Kumbla. Horrible roads.

Re: Monsoons - Road Condition Update

Quick Update on Road condition after our drive in Malnad over the weekend (wait for pics in short TL seperately which should inspire you all for a drive this weekend)

a) Bangalore - Mudigere :- Bangalore - Hassan is good. We took Belur - Gendehalli road which is suprisingly in good condition except at one place which is broken with some potholes but manageable.

b) Mudigere - Charmadi:- Very good condition. Charmady was a treat.

c) Kottigehara - Kalasa:- Very good road again. No worries.

d) Kalasa - Sringeri:- We took the road via Bale Hole and for ten Kms it is bad but manageable with slow speads. Awesome views and water falls compansated for bad road.

e) Sringeri - Agumbe:- Excellent road

f) Agumbe - Tirthahalli :- Surprising still holding good with few potholes at some places which is manageable.

g) Tirthahalli - Bangalore:- Very good road condition. Road is slightly broken at places between Bhadrvati - Tarikere with small pot holes. Easily manageable. Arsikere - Banavara road is broken at some places with small potholes. Easily manageable. The small stretch of road under construction before Tumkur bye pass on is done up nicely. Tiptur remains same story

To give a prespective, we did this in five hours straight drive in Scorpio with a stop for five mins in Arsikere for refilling!!
