Came to Pune via Tahamini ghat on 2st Oct 2012. Road condition is worst. Never ever try this route. Better use pen khopoli way and then expressway . It took me nearly 3.5 hrs for 120 kms from mangaon to pune. Fog and worst road with big potholes between tahmini and mulshi and very tiring journey. avg speed of 25-30 kmph due to fog and worst road.

The Gorakhpur bypass is open, it seems. Therefore, the Lucknow - Kushinagar trip becomes easier.

Gorakhpur bypass on NH28 (East West Corridor) opened a few months ago.
When you are coming from East (Muzaffarpur/Gopalganj), turn LEFT into the bypass 16 kms before Gorakhpur city. The bypass is 33 kms long and ends in the other side of NH28 towards Ayodhya/Lucknow. You can take the bypass to connect with the highways leading from Gorakhpur to Deoria & Varanasi. Fantastic bypass. No facilities yet though.

In view of the heavy rainfall experienced in Maharashtra,Can any one provide an update of the current road conditions/flooding?
I am specifically looking at the following route:
Hyderabad-NH7-Mechal-Nirmal-Bhainsa-Nanded-Jintur-Jalna-Aurangabad-Kannad-Chalisgaon-Dhule-Shirpur-Sendhwa-Dhamnod-Manpur-Mhow-Indore.

Hi Fergus,

I have travelled a lot during rains in Maharashtra (Both on Mumbai-Nagpur as well as Pune-Satara-Bangalore highways)

Please do not worry by news of heavy rainfall as they do not affect the Road.
Road remains goods all around Maharashtra.
Flooding is limited to District roads (sometimes).
Yesterday itself, my friend returned from Mahabaleshwar driving his SX4 & he enjoyed the rain even though they could not venture out much.

Also NH-7 & Nagpur region do not have heavy rains like coastal areas.
Mhow/Indore would be at its nature best with lot of greens around, specially if you happen to be in Army Area. The Mhow Dam is Damn Good

Given the floods in Himachal and reports of roads/bridges getting washed away, any updates on the current situation there ? A group of us are planning to travel to Kufri & Manali in mid-Oct and thus a little concerned given the news. Our cab operator in Chandigarh says nothing to worry and things will be back to normal by the time we reach there.

Road conditions are normal for Shimla & Jalori Pass (upto Aut I would presume). I just now confirmed from a hotel on the Jalori route.
My guess is all roads will be back to normal (if not already) by mid October.
Manali never stays cut-off for extended periods.
