While driving towards Kanakpura you will notice a wide straight road which forks out from NH on the right side. Hotel is soon after this.
Hi

Thanks a lot for the pointer. It was bang on. And the restaurant was good one and probably the only option for the next hour of drive. This is why I love Tbhp.

There is a KA tourism yellow sign board pointing towards right just before the bridge here.

When you get back to NH209 from Gaganachukki, turn left onto NH209. you will see the narrow bridge over the Cauvery river. At the end of the bridge (you are now going in the direction towards Kollegala/chamarajanagar), you will see the yellow sign board of Karnataka tourism for Talakkad - make a right turn here.

re: Bangalore - Shivanasamudra : Route Queries

I made a trip to Gaganchukki from Srirangapatna this weekend. It was a travel from Mayura river view hotel in Srirangapatna to Mayura Gaganchukki hotel in Shivansamudra, after the Kaveri trail marathon. Instead of going towards Mysore, I took SH 79. It is a newly laid out, butter smooth road which is a pleasure to drive. It joins Bannur and from there, the usual Malavalli route was taken (which is great in patches).

I had been to 'The Kitchen' last week, and will give it a pass. The food is just average or little short of that too. Service wasnt great. Parking is a problem - yes !

Suggest to either have b'fast at Adiga in BLR city itself, or
- Mayura @ Bharachukki (this one is closer to the main road compared to the one at Gaganachukki.
- Else it is small hotels in Kollegal town (have to go inside), or
- Nijaguna (behind the busstand in Chamarajanagar).
- Gundlupet (turn towards Mys)

Would love to know how is Bannur to T-Narasipura? Because if that section of SH79 is also good, then I think its one of the best options to bypass Mysore and head south towards Coimbattore.

I don't know about Srirangapattana-Bannur. Roads inside Bannur town is
pretty bad with big craters and this continues all the way till you hit the
T-junction where the Bannuru-Malavalli road meet the road coming in
from T.Narasipura. From this junction the road is in mint condition all the
way till T.Narasipura. Further after the construction of a new bridge across
kapila river, there is no bottleneck to enter/exit T.Narasipura.

See the previous post by Scorp. Seems like Srirangapatna-Bannur is brilliant. Hence was query about the condition further up. So looks like : Srirangapatna-Bannur-T-Narasipura-Muguru-Chamarajanagar may be worth it.

Bannur - T.Narsipur was pretty decent when I travelled last - which was about a year ago. The only issue I noticed during that trip was that you never find any markings for T.Narsipur anywhere on the road (All markings are for Somanathpura and Talakad), so after you've been driving for a while you start wondering if you're on the right track or not !

The road between Baburayanakoppal (close to Srirangapatna) and Bannur is in good condition. But you still have to go through the bad roads inside Bannur town. (The roads on the section towards BabuRayanakoppal were in worse condition than the SH33 stretches, not sure if those has improved now). But then those are just 1 to 2 kms, so no too much of a worry.

Ah! Missed that part of Srirangapattana-Bannur stretch.

You are right Ampere, the whole stretch bar the Bannur town is good. Added attraction is the Somanathapura Temple along the way that you get for free if you can spare 1-2hrs. This route also helps folks wanting to go to Talakadu/Shivasamudra falls from Srirangapttana but not wanting to go to Mysore.

I was looking at this as an option for members drive down south from NH4.

Hiriyur-Huliyar-Neligere-Nagamangala-Pandavpura-Srirangapatma-Bannur-T Narasipura-Chamarajanagar-Sathy-Coimbattore.

Clean roads and no Mysore !

Just that no hotels on the way!

Right. There are two options for folks needing hotel before Chamrajanagara:

1. Nagamangala-Maddur-Mallavalli-Kollegala-Chamarajanagar
(standard hotels around Maddur on Mys-Blr highway)

2. Instead of Srirangapatna, proceed towards Mysore. Couple of options
and dhabas before Columbia Asia junction. Take left at Columbia asia
junction and join Mysore-T.Narasipura Road which is very good.
(once the ring road is complete, it'd be even better). This way you won't
get into too much of Mysore.

Take a right at Nelligere towards NH-48, travel for 1.5 km, have food at Mayura, come back and join the above route. Or take a left at Nelligere junction, have coffee at CCD which is very near to the junction and continue the journey .

Yes thats the only option. But when arriving from Hiriyur, you have to take a right only. Left you take, and you hit the toll booth. After you take a right, as you said, you encounter the CCD first and then Mayura.
