re: Bangalore - Shivanasamudra : Route Queries

Had been to Shivanasamudra recently on a Sunday.
Gaganachukki is absolutely dry with just a little bit of water in the gorge below.
Thankfully, Bharachukki has some water.
The forest department has a toll gate just before the Bharachukki falls and you need to pay Rs.20 for a car and Rs.2 per person as entry fee.
Some pictures here:

Anyone been to Shivanasamudra recently? Is there water in the falls?

Can we club 1 more place nearby to make it a one day trip?

Planning to start from Bangalore in the morning... around 6am.

There is water in the falls now, but not to the extent that it usually will be around August, since this year rains have not been much. You can visit this place anyway. It is a nice spot for a 1 day trip.

You can club Talakadu with this place. That is a river bank with loads and loads of sand deposits making it look like a beach. You can even splash around in the water here a bit. The water is very shallow.

6am should be fine. You should not need more than 2-2.5 hours to reach this place, even with a relaxed pace of driving. If you're travelling with family, stick to Mysore road where you can stop for breakfast at any of the eateries there. Turn left at Maddur and head towards Malavalli -> Shivanasamudra. If you seek a greener, more scenic route, try NH 209 Kanakapura road which also passes through Malavalli. After Malavalli, you will find regular tourism department boards guiding you to either of these places, so route should be no issue. Have a nice trip!

I went last weekend and there was water. However the falls are not full. Water in barachukki is better than gaganchukki falls.

You can combine Talakkad and Somnathpura with Sivanasamudra. I have done all three in a day tour, a couple of times.

Did a one day trip covering Talakkad and Sivanasamudra. Talakkad was so crowded. And people were drinking in open near Cauvery river.
Sivanasamudra was nice even though it was crowded. There was water in the falls.

Took the Mysore route on the way to Sivanasamudra and kanakpura on the way back. Kanakpura road is newly laid and can easily maintain good speeds.

re: Bangalore - Shivanasamudra : Route Queries

I went on 25th Aug. Durga view didnt have much water so we went to Barahchukki. Water was great! Just perfect. Crowd was ok till 12PM, then it just got full, was very crowded! Even the water level increased..

Still no decent place to have lunch. Also all river side place are filthy so cant even have roadside homepacked lunch!!!

However found this great place to have breakfast, its at entry of kanakapura name Udupi Upahar.

Attached some snaps:

I notice this place every time I pass Kanakapura, but never felt like stopping there because (a) it didn't "look" all that great, and (b) Don't recall seeing any convenient place in front of it where one could park your car.

Will give it a try the next time. Thanks.

+1 to that. I did not stop there too due to lack of a safe place to park around the place.
When on this route towards Gundlupet, I also noticed a restaurant outside the KSRTC bus stand in Chamarajanagar that looked decent (Mayura?), haven't tried it though. During last trip we tried Nijaguna Residency for breakfast and it was average but place was very neat and good facilities since it also has lodging.

Mayura Rajadhani which is right in front of Chamarajnagar bus stand is quite OK. Not sure how good the toilet facilities are but the restaurant is quite decent otherwise (though way below the standard of the good ones on SH17) and there's enough place to park in front. More or less the same class as Nandini and Annapoorna in Kollegal and Gokula in Kanakapura.

This time I went via Kanakapura. Must say good green road. Very pleasant to drive! No Mysore-like maniacs

re: Bangalore - Shivanasamudra : Route Queries

Yes, i agree with devrajman the road via kanakapura is great, on the way one could also stop at Shri Shri Ravishankar Ashram and Pyramid Valley, you also have Bheemeshwari fishing camp on the way. The road in patches reminds you of Goa.

If one wants to have "stavik bhojan" one could stop over at Shri Shri Ravishankar Ashram and have lunch and them proceed further.
