URGENT HELP : Davanagere - Madikeri : HOW?

Team,
Planning a trip from Pune to Coorg via Hubli soon. I have planned to go via Haveri-Harihar(NH4) and then Honnali-Shimoga-Tarikere-Chikmagaloor-Mudigere-Sakleshpur-Somwarpeth-Madikeri. How is the road condition of this route and how much time should be planned for this route assuming that we start at 8 am from Hubli? What are the tricky intersections likely to be missed due to missing signboards? Is there better/alternate route?

This comes as an emergency...

I need the route (best in terms of time taken) from Davanagere to Madikeri (coorg). I got a good SUV, so no issues about bad roads. Leaving tomm!

HV Kumar suggested the route via shimoga, bhadravati, ttarikere, channarayapatna, hassan, arkalgud, periyapatna, kushalnagar to madikeri

I was thinking of
DVG - Shimoga - Asrikere - Channarayapatna - Arkalgud - Periyapatna - Madikeri

My questions :

1. distances for both these routes
2. time taken for both these routes (on a good SUV)

Another possible scenic route is
Davangere-Shimoga-Tarikere-Lingadahalli-Chikmagalur-Mudigere-Sakleshpura
-Kodlipete-Shanivarsanthe-Madikeri..
I have not much idea about distance(may be farthest??) as I had travelled in this route long back.
This is probably the most scenic route amost the 3 route( 2 routes u have already mentioned)

Bunny, isnt Kumar suggested the same route which you are mentioning?

Anyway I was also suggesting Kumar's route. Roads are mostly decent. Now that you have a SUV roads will not matter,

Hassan to Madikeri is reported to be a good section. You should not face any problem there.

Based on the BLR-Goa threads, you can expect some bad roads south of Shimoga.

@HV Kumar, does one have to go to Bhadravati for this ?

Bunny, if you are driving down from Pune, suggest you turn right at Harihar and go to Shimoga. That road is good. Any other roads in DVG & Chitradurga dist, towards Shimoga are not as good as the Harihar - Shimoga.

Else, what are the options for DVG - Shimoga ?

Forgot to specify : it's Hassan - Somwarpet - Madikeri.

I suggest you do DVG-Harihar - Shimoga.

I feel drive would be around 8+ hours with 350km aprox.

Hassan - Arkalgud - Somavaarpet is ideal one if you go directly to Madikeri.

If you plan to go to Virajpet or or Gonikoppal area from Arkalgud need to go to Piriyapatna or Hole Marasipura based on which route is ideal.

About Davengere - Hassan its tight call unless we travelled or someone who travelled recently. I feel you try Davengere - Harihara -Honnali - Shimoga - Bhadravati - Tarikere - turn right to Chikamagalur road via lingadalli - Chikamagalur - Belur - Hassan which would be 190 km aprox. Between Shimoga - Bhadravati hardly 2km bad road is there so don't worry about bad roads. I feel you can see surprise potholes rather than bad roads in this route.

Hi I am planning to drive Bombay to Coorg. I know that Bombay to Belgaum is good(NH4). Can anyone tell how the road is beyond i.e Belgaum to coorg!!

Hi dude just do a search and you will find volumes of info. For starters you will have to come either to bangalore or go via mangalor to go to coorg. Would suggest you go to bangalore and the road conditions are given here

Since you are planning a Mumbai-Coorg, you can check the above which was for a Pune-Coorg trip. Check with Bunny for more details.

Your route upto Harihar should be a no-brainer. Your other option may the longer Mumbai-Karwar-Shimoga-Hassan-Somwarpet-Madikeri route.

Road is good, maybe a few kms of rough road in Bhadravathi area and Honnali-Harihar. NH4 between Harihar and Haveri also has some bad sections.

Distance is as follows:
Hassan-Tarikere (have to refer my log, but distance around 50 kms)-Shimoga 45-Honnali 42-Harihar 40-Ranebennur 20-Haveri 30-Hubli 77-Belgaum 100.

Could be a fast half-day drive.
