Bangalore - Jog travel. Where to Stay?

I am planning to drive to Jog this weekend. Still we have not finalized the place to Stay.

I searched for hotels around Shimoga and no references except Jewel Rock hotel.

Are there any decent hotels/resorts nearby Jog/Shimoga?.. Need your help.

Thanks
Shankar

Jewel Rock is good place to stay and eat in that area.

Or what you do is start Bangalore in the morning and have lunch at Sagar then reach Jog Falls by 2PM easily. Enjoy the place for 3 hours and If you are coming back to Bangalore after Jog visit then drive back to Shimoga and further towards Jungle resort River turn which is very good place. You can enjoy Badra back water there.

Regards,

Ravi.

PS WOW and Hi sushrutha!

Hey Shankar.. there aren't any good hotels in Jog.
Safe bet would be to stay at Jewel Rock (Budget , Best hotel in shimoga)
Else you can stay at River tern Jungle resorts at Lakkavalli superb backwaters n fantastic location (2200 Inr/head / day).
Lakkavalli is 35kms from shimoga

Another option is Kamat Hotel at Honnavar.
http://www.kamatgroupindia.com/

I have stayed at this Hotel in Nov 2005. The AC rooms are spacious and clean. The restaurent downstairs is OK. Serves only vegetarian food.

I paid Rs 400 for a night.

There is a small porch in front of the hotel, where you can park your car. Security guard is there 24X7.

Have a nice trip.

Couldn't understand as why should he go all the way till Honnavar for staying, When he's visiting Jog falls.
Approx distance between Jog - Honnavar is around 100kms ..
Ravi correct me if I'm wrong

Thats nice Sushrutha,

In Sagar there is one hotel (varadashree is the name I think) for stay its quiet ok. Thats one good option. Behind that there is lake like place so make sure you take AC room avoid mosquitos, it has veg and non veg food and bar attached.

In honnavar food is not good but stay at Kamat would be quiet ok but honnavar is 60km from JOG.

If you drive back to Bangalore I suggest you stay in Varadashree in sagar, while going to Jog from bangalore have lunch at sagar same hotel or try another hotel near bus stand-hp petrol bunk thats good as well for veg food. See if you like the room of varadashree and book the room and proceed to Jog and come back. Plan according to your need

Regards,

Ravi.

Jog-Honnavar is ~65 kms. I suggested this as an option as I didn't know his full itinerary.

What is the hotel - or is it the PWD rest house - which is at Jog overlooking the Falls?

I feel still they have not renewed the PWD rest house overlooking JOG.

Hotel in sagar is Varadashree. TEL: 08183-228899 as per wikimapia. I have visited this hotel multiple times, its decent and good hotel in that area.

Wikimapia - Let's describe the whole world!

Ravi.

Understand it is just 65kms but the road is not a straight road so that you can cover the distance in 40-50mins, the road is Ghat section and that will consume most of the time To & Fro along with more fuel, one way it will take nearly 2hrs on that road

Better to stay at Sagar or could try the below mentioned facility at Jog (Info on a website)

- The government owned (Karnataka Tourism) "Sharavati Tourist Home" is comfortable clean and reasonble priced. It offers good view of the falls.

- Tunga Tourist Home : This is also a cheap and comfortable place to say.

- Inspection Bunglow at Jog falls : This is often heavily booked and its booking can be done at the District Commissioners at Shimaga.

- Guest-House near the falls : Reservations has to be done if one plans to stay here, through the Supt. Engineer (Elec.) Mahatma-Gandhi Hydro-electric works Jog Falls.

- Jog-falls Guest house : Maintained by the Tourist department. Reservation can be done through its resident manager.

- Woodlands : This is another place where one can stay at Jog Falls but is not upto the mark.

Thanks everyone for the info.

We started Saturday morning at 5:30AM and reached Jog by 2:30.

Jog although not at its best is still awesome at this time of the year.

Spent time till 5:30 there and drove back to Shivamogga. We had not done any reservations as this kind of started totally unplanned.

Went to Jewelrock and found that the hotel was full. Searched for an hour and finally found a place in Hotel Samrat Ashok.

This hotel is quite decent and has very good food. The dosas are really great there.

Try this one out if you are planning to visit Jog. I suggest you must because, this is one place you must not miss in the monsoons if you are in Karnataka.

Thanks
Shankar
