I did Hyderabad - Bangalore and back last weekend and if I take out the breaks, I think it took me about 7.5 hours on a new car being run-in. Certain sections are good but certain are Pain as well. Especially Jadcheral - Gooty - Chikballapur where construction is going on.

Bangalore - Hyderabad run on 13-May-09.

Start time: 5:45am. Hennur Jn. on Ring Road.
End time: 2:30pm, Adarsh Nagar Hyderabad.
30min in between for 2 breaks.

Hennur - Chikkaballapur. good roads upto the chikkaballapur town, where the road narrows down and you need to slow.

Chikkaballapur - Pennukonda. Excellent 4 lane roads. you can do 120kph easily. Few diversions.

Pennukonda - Kurnool. Mix of good single lanes and bad roads. avg speeds of 80kph.

Kottakota - Hyderabad. Excellent 4 lane roads. will make you wonder if you are in India. Tolls at 2 places. INR 78. Can do 140kph. The Jadcherla flyover and Shadnagar bypass are ready and help a lot.

cheers!

110 or 120 if I'm not wrong. Thats where the marshals put you into your lane.

Update as of few weeks back, Kurnool to Anathapur is still under construction and this is the stretch that will slow your progress on NH7!

By when can we expect complete 4 lane road from blr to hyd? Currently I am not allowed by my gang to drive this distance because the avg time from door to door is considered 12hrs.

I'm planning to drive from Bangalore to Hyderabad this weekend. Thinking to start from Bangalore around 4:00 pm, stay for the night at Anantpur. Next day drive from Anantpur to Hyderabad. Trying to take it easy and avoid driving the whole distance in one shot.

1. Is there a decent place to stay at Anantpur (Travelling with family) ?
2. Is it safe to drive after sunset in NH-7 ? I think it will take till 8pm-9pm to reach Anantpur given the Bangalore evening traffic.
3. From Banglore, is it better to take NH-7 (Chikbalapur) or Hindpur road ?

Are there any other places to stay (and to see) on the way ? I am not in any particular hurry to reach Hyderabad.

Anantapur should be a decent place to stay. It is a district HQ, and should have pretty good accomodation.
Otherwise, if you are interested, and spiritually inclined, you can go upto Puttaparthi and stay there.(Covers your requirement of visiting places)
Also, you can consider visiting Alampur near Kurnool. It has been on my wishlist, and never took a deviation to visit there.
Night driving safety wise, I donot think there is any issue with NH7. Only road safety as with any highway at night, since there are unannounced two ways on the way.
NH7 is better than Doddaballapur-Hindupur road IMO.

Hyd - Blr can be done within 7 hors if you are a fast driver with one break. Very much achievable within 8.

Cheers
