re: Food joints / Eateries on Indian Highways

Can Someone recommend a few good daytime eateries on the Chennai to Kanyakumari stretch. Would be better if it's on the NH itself rather than taking a detour into a town or SH. Planning to take this route this month-end.
Route-->>
1. Chennai to Trichy- NH 45
2. Trichy to Madurai- NH 45B
3. Madurai to Kanyakumari - NH7

re: Food joints / Eateries on Indian Highways

I really appreciate the thread providing 1st hand references of reliable and more importatntly hygienic joints on our roads. The story read in Pune newspaper really made me realise the value of such information.

One certain Kulkarnis returning from Sangamner (~100kms to Pune), stopped over roadside dhaba to munch on Idli-sambar. The unfortunate family suffered food poisoning resulting in all 3 members admitted to hospital, the more saddening part is their 2 years kid lost life due to food poisoning.

PS: The unfortunate saga didn't end there for Kulkarni's, after reaching home, the bereaved family found their Pune home robbed of valuables and money

A Guide : The Great Indian DHABAs

Hi Guys,

I just noticed we have so many cool travelouges, its time we have a thread specifically for Dhabas/Highway stops across our country.

To get this going,i will quickly list a few popular ones in North :

Haveli,GT Road (Jalandhar) - Excellent Punjabi food.

Cheetal Grand, Delhi Mussorie Road ( Khatauli) - Serves fresh Juices, breakfast, etc * shuts quite early iirc

Dhabas @ Murthal - GT Road (Outskirts of Delhi, enroute to Chandigarh) - Must try the Parathas here

Jain Shikanji,Modinagar ( Near Meerut,enroute to Dehradun/mussoorie) - Only Serves "Masala fresh lime Soda" *Not a dhaba,just a quick 2 min stop.

Re: A Guide : The Great Indian DHABAs

Nice topic. The team-bhp guide to the best dhabas on important routes, like the "Highway on my plate" show. I will be glued to this thread.

The best dhaba I have ever been to easily was the Bittu da Dhaba on the Jabalpur Mandla road where the Rajma and the Dal were the best I have ever had a chance to taste.

Re: A Guide : The Great Indian DHABAs

The best of the lot of Dhabas in Murthal is "Sukhdev Da Dhaba". Driving Delhi to Karnal, it is the last one on the series.

Re: A Guide : The Great Indian DHABAs

Puran Singh Da Dhaba at Ambala is legendary.

There is also another one whose name i can't recall. It is close to Oasis, Karnal and comes on the left side if Oasis is on your right. And no, it's not Zhilmil dhaba.

But it will be good to see if there are any decent dhabas around Bangalore. Kanakpura road used to have some, a long long time ago.

Re: A Guide : The Great Indian DHABAs

There are 4-5 Puran Singh ka Dhabas. Puran singh ka asli dhaba, asli puran singh, dhaba puran singh and like that. Its very difficult to identiy the original one. Nevertheless food is very good in all of them.

Another good one and comparatively new is Chaupal about 5kms before one enters Amabala from Delhi side towards right. This one has a good seating and parking arrangement.

Sheetal Dhaba in lonavla on the old Mumbai-Pune highway just before Sunny da Dhaba is one great place to eat. Sunny da dhaba is also owned by the same person.
