I think the first route is better. The only bad section of road is between Tarikere and Bhadravati, it was being repaired as of 10 days ago, the second route you mentioned is through smaller roads which might take longer to traverse.
Regards,
Hari.

Route 2 is 77 KM.
route 2 goes via near to Bhadrabati reasourvor . So do you think that this route might be better scenic place.
Need advice from you all...

1. Bangalore -- Tarikere---Bhadravati byepass---Shimoga---Thirthahalli is the ideal for this trip. I have done it many a times. Its a very nice pleasurable drive. Take bye-pass' in Bhadravathi as well as Shimoga.

Hmm every one is advising the second option 1.
By the way on route 2 near the Lakkavalli you have a JLR accommodation/resort.

I don't think Route 2 option road exists although it is marked in the map. One of my friends had some work in that region, was told that the only way to go from Tarikere to Tirthahalli was on Route 1.

A big correction - I talked to my friend Dwarak - and he confirmed that he had gone on Route 2 via Lakkavalli - reported that the road is narrow and after Lakkavalli damaged. But his trip was quite some time ago - 2/3 years ago - and road conditions would have changed. He mentions that you have to turn off the main road to Shimoga 3 kms after Tarikere.

The road near Thirtahalli around 10kms is Horrible... no words to describe....Your vehicle will cry. But there is no other way, you need to travel in the same route.

Prefer to travel in the route 1, except that 10kms all other places roads are good.

Enjoy.

Which 10 km stretch are you mentioning?
I drove from Shimoga to Thirthahalli on the 18th of this month, the only bad stretch is just as you leave Shimoga town and then a small stretch in the Shettyhalli forest range, but both these bad patches pale in comparison with the road before and after Tarikere.

Lakkavalli route is very narrow & its a village route, you can find lots of people & cattle on the road, be careful.

I have been travelling a lot between Chikmagalur - Shimoga in past 1 month, the road condition between tarikere - bhadravathi is horrible.
Rest of the road condition is just OK nothing great.
