Trichy - Neyveli - Coimbatore

I'm from Trichy and need to
1. Goto Neyveli for a wedding
2. Visit relatives in Coimbatore
From Trichy both these places are in different directions.
Is there anyway I can do a round trip on my car and if yes what is the route and how are the roads.
Plan A: (by car)
Sunday Morning: Trichy to Neyveli (Route seems OK on the map!) - 150 KM
Monday morning: Neyveli to Coimbatore (Absolutely no idea about this route) - ?? km
Thursday Morning: Coimbatore to Trichy (Have to look up routes etc) - 205 KM

Plan B: (car +/- train)
Sunday Morning: Trichy to Neyveli
Monday morning: Neyveli to Trichy
Tuesday early morning: Trichy to Coimbatore (?train/?car)
Thursday morning: Coimbatore to Trichy

I will not drive at night.
Can someone tell me the exact routes for each of these trips (eg. How to get to Neyveli from Trichy, etc) and what is a better plan, expected times and road conditions.

Finally if there are good places to stay in Neyveli overnight, do suggest them for me.
Keeping my fingers crossed to get some advice on this route!

The shortest route from Neyveli to Coimbatore would be to come to Veppur on NH45 and go via Athur to Salem and take NH47 from there via Bhavani, Perunthurai and Avinashi. However, the road from Veppur to Salem is perpetually bad. The alternatives are too long: the first is to come to Srirangam near Trichy and take the road to Coimbatore via Musiri, Karur, Namakkal and Gangeyam. The other is to go north via Panruti and Villupuram till Tindivanam and go via NH66 to Krishnagiri (via Tiruvannamalai) and take NH7/NH47 route via Dharmapur, Mettur and Bhavani (not recommended, too long).

Return from Coimbatore to Trichy is via Gangeyam, Namakkal, Karur, Musiri.

@HVK Actually there are couple of other alternatives which I can think off, correct me if I am wrong.

The first one is Neyveli - Panruti - Tirukoilur - Tiruvannamalai - Chengam - Uttangarai - Harur - Salem - Coimbatore. This would be very long.

The second one is Neveyli - Vridachalam - Veppur- Perambalur - Musiri - Kulithalai - Karur - Kangeyam - Coimbatore. (Now you could use the same route to come to Neyveli from Trichy or alternatively come via Thanjavur - Kumbakonam) This would be similar distance to coming via Salem using the regular route.

The shortest route is through Attur - Salem. However Salem - Coimbatore is being 4 laned and it would be a highly irritating drive.

I still think the shortest route to Coimbatore is back through Trichy. Any reason you want to do a round trip?

I think the second route suggested by srikanth makes the best sense.

I've decided to do the trip this way
By Car:
Trichy to Neyveli
Neyveli to Trichy
By Train:
trichy to Coimbatore and back to Trichy

Can someone gimme suggestions for Trichy to Neyveli and the road conditions etc.

Report from someone who went 10 days ago is that Trichy-Neyveli road is OK.

Do you have any idea how this has changed after the rains. I plan to do the Trichy Neyveli trip this sunday and some people are discouraging me saying the roads are really bad.

The last drive impression I have from a friend 3-5 days ago was that the NH45 from Tindivanam to Trichy is good throughout. The other was on the Vikravandi-Panruti-Neyveli-Kumbakonam road, but that was during the Diwali week, when that road was also good, although there were rough patches. If the road had not been good, they could not have left Madras in the morning and returned the same evening after covering a lot of temples in the Kumbakonam region.

Finished the trip!
I took 2 different trips for the onward and the return journeys.
Trichy to Neyveli:
Trichy - Perambalur (bypass)(NH45) - Thozhuthur - Pennadam - Virudhachalam - Neyveli
basically i stopped and asked at thozhuthur as to whether this road was OK and a couple of people said it was better - and biy were they wrong!!
From Trichy to Thozhuthur is NH45 and its really good. There was only one really bad stretch and the rest was good roads although there were some diversions.
When you turn right at Thozhuthur the first few kilometers are OK but then it gets very unpredictable with lots of potholes especially around Pennadam, a little cattle etc.
In Virudhachalam the roads were really bad and then on to Neyveli was not too bad.
I'm a very conservative driver and this took me 4 hours including stops for directions, a coffee break and a railway crossing.
on the way back I had a long stop at Virudhachalam to visit my old home, school, etc and this made the timings bad.
People at Virudhachalam said that the Veppur road would reach NH45 faster and that the road was actually better.
They were very much right.
Although the Virudhachalam Veppur road also had some potholes etc it was on the whole better than the Virudhachalam - Thozhuthur stretch and we reached NH45 much faster. There was a lot of construction where the road enters NH45 and we had to make a U-turn once
From Veppur it was NH45 and most of it was a breeze.
