Bangalore - Pondy - Kottayam

Hi guys,

Am planning a long-ish roadtrip end of this year, with just my wife & baby (around 11 months then).

We are looking at driving from BLR to Pondy, and spending around 3 days there. From there we need to travel to Kottayam to visit family, and wanted to know the route and the general condition of the road.

Anybody with any recent experiences on this route? Do I need to come to Cochin or to Coimbatore to get to Kottayam? Heard about this Kambam route, which is supposedly through rural TN.

Any thoughts & ideas most welcome.

Thanks,
Anit

Anit,

Bangalore-Pondy:

Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Uttangarai-Tiruvannamalai-Gingee-Tindivanam-POndy

Lots of discussion on this route in the forum.

Pondy-Kottayam:

No need to go to either Cochin or Coimbatore for Kottayam. The direct and shortest route is via Kambam.

Pondy-Villupuram-Veppur-Permabalur-Trichy-Manaparrai-Dindigul-Sembatti-Vathalagundu-Periakulam-Theni-Kumbam-Thekkady/Kumili-Vandiperiyar-Peeremede-Munadkayam-Kanjirapalli-Ponkunnam-Kottayam

Doable in a day from Pondy.

I have attached a excel file which details the 550-km route from Pondy to Kottayam via Trichy, Kumbam and Thekkady. If you leave early in the morning, you should reach Kottayam by evening.
