Hi Everybody,
I am in a deep fix now. 25th 26th is my side of family get together at Mudumalai
27th 28th is my wife side of family get together
Cant miss both. have to be there at both places
What is the shortest / fastest route from mudumalai / ooty to thekkady
Honestly I would like to avoid the Thekkady leg sleep off in Mudumalai but my wife wants to be there this year

hello bala,

from mudumalai to ooty to coimbatore to pollachi to udumallaipettai to moonnaar to kallaar to kumili then comes to thekadi. this route will take you longer and this will be around 375km but total ghat roads will be around 225km.

this is a shortest route if you are ok with driving in ghats.

other route is ooty - coimbatore to palladam to darapuram, to sempatti to theni to kambam to gudalur(near madurai) to thekadi which will be around 430km but very less ghat roads and are state and national highways.

The easiest route from Ooty would be

Ooty - Mettupalayam - Annur - Avinashi - Palladam - Dharapuram - Ottanchatram - Sembatti - Vatlagundu - Periyakulam - Theni - Kambam -Gudalur - Kumily - Thekkady.

Do NOT go to Coimbatore from Mettupalayam. Its a roundabout way and you will have to wade through a lot of traffic.

Roads should be good throughout except between Otanchatram to Sembatti which is around 20 kms.

Should be around 350kms +

Upto Vatlagundu is my regular route and am familiar with it. From there to Thekady should be ok as I have done this stretch once in 2000
I thought the route from Dharapuram - udumalaipet - kerala - munnar - thekkady was shorter. But cant do speeds on ghat sections. Hence Will stick to the landline rather than the mobile (serial - cloudy) route. Best would be to convince wifey to stay back in Mudumalai
