Chennai to Coimbatore to Gurvayoor

Hi All,
I went through the previous threads of kb100 where the routes for Chennai to coimbatore are available , could some one please let me know of the route from coimbatore to guruvayoor . Hear there is a forest range of walayar in between , can some one give me ideas on this route and the condition of this route?
Also the best route to coimbatore from chennai after the rains.

Thanks in advance.

Chennai to Coimbatore is pretty simple.

Take the GQ from Koyambedu or join it in Poonamallee from Guindy.

Then its Chennai - Vellore - Ambur - Krishnagiri. Take left at the junction in Krishnagiri (right is towards Bangalore). Its a 4 lane again from here till Thoppur.

Take right in Thoppur towards Mechari - Mettur - Ammapettai. Take right here towards Andiyur - Athani - Sathy. Take left here towards Coimbatore.

Coimbatore - Palghat - Trichur - Guruvayur. Should take around 4 hrs.

Here's another thread on the same topic

Walayar comes somewhere inbetween Coimbatore and Palaghat. So AFAIK it is not a different route to reach Guruvayoor.

Palaghat to Thrissur stretch (NH 47) when i last travelled in August had number of bad patches, so drive carefully . Also watch out for the KSRTC buses on this stretch.

Thanks!

Hi,
I had great drive to Coimbatore and onwards to guruvayoor!
I did follow the same route as mentioned below!
It took 6.5 hrs to reach kovai. This route is traffic free and has a lot of vegetation around !!must go route as you drive along paddy fields!

Coimbatore to palghat is excellent road but Palghat to trissur is very rough for the first 10 kms!! else its good!!Beware of KSRTC when in kerala.

Nevr ever take the route via salem while returning I made that mistake !!!!
hopeless route! full of trucks and small vehicles and 4 laning!
It took 4 hrs to reach bhavani from Coimbatore!!

Thanks again guys!!

It took 4 hrs to Bhavani from Cbe? Was the traffic and road so bad? Or do you mean Salem?

Yes the whole stretch from Coimbatore to Perundurai-Kumarapalayam bypass (near Bhavani) - Salem - Dharmapuri - Krishnagiri is being 4 laned. While the Krishnagiri - Salem section is almost done, the Salem - Coimbatore and Salem - Trichy ones are not yet done.

I've been using the Ammapet - Athani route for more than 2 years and the road condition has only improved till now.

By the way, how much of the Cbe - Salem route is 4 laned?

@csentil

yes ! It took 4 hours! Bad route !!!
and it is also having potholes!!!

Bhavani salem also was bad I heard , so went back to the same route avoiding Bhavani - Salem.

Bhavani to Mettur was too good! but driving in day time may be slow as it covers many villages enroute!

Your usual Route is the best !!!
I simply enjoyed that route!

Hmm. I don't know why the Bhavani - Coimbatore route is taking so long to complete. This was started even before the Krishnagiri - Salem route.

I remember taking the Bhavani - Cbe route Nov 2006 on my Matiz when the road work had just started and almost ended up being shoved onto the side once and just about avoided a head on.

After that its always been Ammapet - Sathy/Gobi - Coimbatore route. I like the Athani - Gobi - Nambiyur route even better. Extremely scenic and a fantastic drive.

Guys:
I need some info. I do the following route frequently.

Chennai - Krishnagiri - Thoppur - Mettur - Bhavani - Perundurai - Uthukuli - Tiruppur.

Looking at the thread, I want to know how good is the following route.

Mettur - Ammapettai - Gopichettipalayam - Tiruppur.

I want to know how good are these road, traffic etc.

Will be doing it on 14th early morning. I had 3-tier train tickets booked 3 months in advance. But cancelled the train tickets and going by car.

I usually start at 4 AM from Chennai and at 7 AM i reach Krishnagiri.

Thoppur - Mettur would be in decent condition. Mechari - Mettur bypass can be crowded during peak hours.

Mettur - Ammapettai is 20 kms. Decent roads again.

Take right towards Andiyur. Take left in Andiyur towards Athani. Good condition roads when I did it a couple of months back.

Just after Athani take the left towards Gobi. This roads snakes through paddy fields and is in ok condition. Some potholes but not many. This road will hit Gobi bang in the centre.

Take right and drive out of town for 4-5 kms. You will see a big left saying Nambiyur/Avinashi. Take this left. Good roads all the way till Avinashi.

Morning traffic is usually there. But after 11 am and till 4-5 pm there's not much traffic. Few buses if any.

From there on its the usual Avinashi - Tiruppur road.

Thanks for the immediate response Senthil. Do you know the condition of the Gopi to Tiruppur road via Perumanallur? I will try this route this time really fed up with the 4 laning works.

Is it via Kunnathur? Gobi - Kunnathur - Peramanallur? I don't know. Going by the good road conditions and road work that seems to have happened in that entire district, I guess it would be ok.

Does anyone know the condition of Salem-Coimbatore stretch?

Does anyone know the condition of Salem-Coimbatore stretch? These are the things I would like to know:
1. Is the entire stretch made into 4 lanes and median separated?
2. How is the condition of the road such as potholes, bad patches etc?
