Just did Hyd -> Aurangabad -> Shirdi ->Nashik and back this week.
Route I took:
Hyd -> Zaheerabad -> Omerga -> Naldurg -> Osmanabad -> Beed -> Aurangabad and same way back.
Roads are good for the 90% part.
Exiting from Hyd you will find some bad patches and much traffic. Can be handled by leaving early. Then from Hyd till Zaheerabad road is average with occasional potholes/bad patches/no road. But once you enter Karnataka, roads are buttery smooth with very good scenery. This continues till Omerga where again there are No Roads/Many Potholes situation as some road work is ongoing. Omerga -> Naldurg is the main pain in the ***. Then from Naldurg to Tuljapur you get 2 lane curvy roads with occasional potholes/bikes.
And that is it. From Tuljapur to Aurangabad roads are 4 laned scenic landscapes. We started at 6:15 from Hyderabad and reached Aurangabad at 3 PM with one meal stop and 3-4 photo stops.
Samrudhdhi Mahamarg is good but the roads are not very leveled. Also ensure that you have ample fuel before embarking on Samrudhdhi Mahamarg. The first fuel pump is 50KM North of Shirdi exit.
Ample eateries along the way. We tried the Udupi Uphaar few kilometers after the ORR exit and Apple Restaurant near Osmanabad. While the former was average, Apple was really good with ample parking and comfortable seating & clean toilets. You will find many others on this stretch near Osmanabad.
If you want to fuel up, plan it in Karnataka where the prices are the lowest. I found Jio-BP near Basvakalyan to be good. Filled here twice.
We visited Ajanta/Ellora caves. Also visited Shirdi Sai temple and Sula Vineyards.
On the Shirdi Sai temple I would say be aware of touts. They allure you into prasad & chadava and what not. Nothing is required inside the temple and everything is a state sponsored big loot. In fact I feel there are no religious sentiments prevailing there. It is all a big business machine for the state and the people residing there.
P.S. On the Osmanabad -> Aurangabad stretch there will be random police checks. Please be prepared for the same. I got checked twice while driving towards Aurangabad and once on the way back. They usually check pending challans.
Also there are speed guns on the stretch right after ORR exit in Telangana.
Few snips from the drive:

Got my rim scrapped along with the tyre on the Omerga - Naldurg patch.

Hope this helps fellow travelers.
