Bangalore - Calicut : Route Queries

Hi,

After one year of no travelling, we are planning to do Bangalore - Calicut - Guruvayur during the next extended weekend.

There are 3 routes to Calicut from Mysore according to my map -
1. Mysore - Gundelpet - Sultan Bathery - Kalpetta - Vytheri - Calicut
2. Mysore - Gundelpet - Bandipur - Gudalur - Pandalur - Vytheri
3. Mysore - Hampapura - Kakankote - Manantody - Vytheri - Calicut

Please advice which is the best route to take currently?
We would be travelling with our 4 month old baby - so do not want to take risks.

Dear All,

Thanks a lot. We would take route 1 only. Last time also we drove through that route only but that was a good 2 years back - and it was good.
Thanks a lot for the confirmation.

Route to Calicut

Hi Junta,
I would be travelling to Kappad beach resort tomorrow.
Would be great if someone could let me know the best route to take and some tips. I would be travelling with my 6 months pregnant wife. So a route as less bumpy as possible would be my choice. Searching the forums i found 3 routes to Calicut from Bangalore:
1. Bangalore - Mysore - Gundelpet - Sultan Bathery - Kalpetta - Vytheri - Calicut :::::::
2. Bangalore - Mysore - Gundelpet - Bandipur - Gudalur - Pandalur - Vytheri
3. Bangalore - Mysore - Hampapura - Kakankote - Manantody - Vytheri - Calicut

Thanx,
Neo

Would rather advice not to travel at this stage.

But for the info:

Use option 1, which is the best.
The Mysore -> Nanjangud stretch is pretty bumpy. Need to be careful. Nanjangud to Gudlupet has been tarred recently. Is very good. Gudlupet to Vythri is just breeze. Amazing road on the NH212. Beyond Vythri, I am not on the road status.

Also take a mandatory pit stop at the Gudlupet Coffee day, as beyond that I am not sure if you have a good place to halt.

Hi All -

Planning to do "Bangalore - Mysore - Gundelpet - Sultan Bathery - Kalpetta - Vytheri - Calicut" on 9th Sep. Planning to start around 12:00noon from Marathahalli. (m'halli-SarjapurRd-HosaRd-NiceRd-MysoreRd - etc)

Kindly let me know the current road conditions - after monsoon.

Read other threads and found that Mysore-Nanjangud is in bad shape. Rest, I hope is good. Will be on my Wagon-R.

Though I have driven through mysore many times (always through City), still not sure about the shortest route to enter and exit while going to Kerala and return. Any pointers/help on this is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Biju l was in wayanad last weekend. As mentioned the roads between mysore and nanjungud is in shambles. However pretty much doable , you gotto be a little slow and 20kms isn't too much to cover. Beyond Nanjungud the roads are good all the way till Kalpetta.

The only other bad stretch is for about a km or 2 once you enter the bandipur forest after gundlupet, pot holes and pot holes.

The other point is you are starting at 12 noon. Be sure about forest entry times. Not sure if night restrictions are still on. I know you should be able to cover by that time, but still worth keeping tabs on.

Also be advised that the Thamaraserry ghat section is not in a great shape. The rains/falling trees/trucks adds to traffic pile ups in the ghat section. I was stuck for nearly 2 hours the last time.
