August first week is about the time I will be leaving Belgaum for good. But I will be in the area (Possibly Hubli) so we can work something out. I will be particularly interested in the Chorla ghat (I have not done it all the way to Goa, ever. just been to anjunem lake) so it is :thumbs up from me.

Sad to know that you will leave Belgaum. Yes I am planning a full Chorla route review with pictures. Many here must be eager to see what most of belgaumites call "The road To Hell"
You are welcome to add me on face book.
Cheers.
A landslide has been reported yesterday evening on the Amboli - Sawantwadi route just near to the falls. The route has been closed down for traffic. Please avoid the Belgaum - Amboli - Sawantwadi - Panjim route. Will try & keep you all posted about the reopening of the route.

Thats bad news. I was thinking of going there on the 16th. Now will have to explore other options. Train maybe. No point in driving in heavy rains
Thanks for the update Sahir
Nigel, its high time you take the Tilari route mate.
You will change your opinion about driving in the rains, and for sure will make it a point that you DRIVE in rains.
Nigel, I make it a point to RIDE through Thillari during the rains. It is still one of those places that is not too well known and has a charm that is becoming rare.
Sahir, please start a thread on Belgaum ASAP (and make the route options a part of that thread). There are all these small places in the area that most Team-bhp-ians will love.
Photo of Amboli land slide. Its 600mts after the falls.

This is definitely going to take some time clearing, considering the fact that the area is going to get some more rains.Looks like NH4A is going to see an increase in traffic and so is the Phondaghat.

Er, 'after' the falls from which side?
To be specific, is the slide between the falls and Amboli or between the falls and Sawantwadi?

I believe this is before the falls and at the same location as last year. They had made a concrete wall to prevent land slides but the loose rocks seem to have taken along a part of the wall as well.
Thanks to Sahir and Suniladhiya for suggesting the 'Amboli' route. Fortunately we travelled on 10th ie one day before the landslide. The route was simply worth for the scenic view from the Amboli ghats.
I feel, the Molem route is much better for those travelling to South Goa. For Panjim it is 50:50. Once the Sawantwadi-Panjim road is fixed (4-laning is complete wherever possible), the Amboli route will be more attractive for Panjim.
While traveling between Sawantwadi and Mapusa, I came across a stretch that looked like they are building a brand new road, and this was perpendicular to the road. May be it will be connected to Vengurla.
@a-myth, I remember reading here on t-bhp that this short cut to panjim should be avoided at all costs, and it is good that you did not take it.
Minardi,
Molem route is good, But the minning trucks traffic between molem & tiskar is a big hussle.
The brand new road you mentioned is the new NH17 from Kudal to Pernem which will bypass sawantwadi.
