Am planning a trip next month and just trying to figure out the best route.
Hi,

A friend of mine just did this route in an XUV 500 3 days ago.
Says that from Goa to Rajapur and Oni was quite nice but after that the trip was nothing short of a nightmare and the fact that they did it at night made it even worse I guess. The road is far from being complete and one has to keep crossing from one side of the road to the other. The service roads are full of potholes. I would suggest you wait another 6 months or so before venturing on this road.

Regards,
SS

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

In that case I guess this would be a better route?

It's backwards in the map, but basically -

Mumbai - Karad - Oni - Talere - Mapusa

Any idea how bad is the road? Also what is the situation with smaller towns like Malkapur? Last year when I took Karad - Malkapur route to go to Ratnagiri, main road in Kokrud was closed and diversion made me go through fields. It was about 2 kms of diversion.

What a waste of money. They can't finish NH66 and planning another highway. They are still struggling with land acquisition issues on NH66 till date and how will they manage for this new highway?

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Hi All,

This question is about taking a tourist bus (not MSRTC/ Kadamba) from Goa to Khed(Ratnagiri- Chiplun)/ Bharane Naka in Konkan.

Apologies if my question is stupid as I am very new to this route via bus. My objective is to travel from Goa to Khed/ Bharane Naka via NH66. Do some buses from Goa to Mumbai take NH66 (Goa- Ratnagiri- Chiplun- Khed- Panvel- Mumbai)? If Yes, It would be very helpful If anyone could help with the names of such buses that cover this route. This route is showing as having no bus in redbus.com but I have seen some tourist buses with passengers in hotels near Bharane Naka/ Chiplun. My plan is to take a flight from BLR to Goa and any bus on NH66 route to reach Khed/ Bharane Naka. Want to avoid taking flight to Mumbai and traveling down (from Mumbai buses are available in redbus.com to Chiplun). Please advise.

Re: Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries

Route Update:
We did the Pune - Kolhapur - Nippani - Ajara - Amboli - Calangute yesterday. We had last used this route about a year ago with a 5:30 am start, a single stop before Kolhapur for breakfast and arrived at the hotel before 2pm with half a tank left. This time it took us 11 hours with the same start and had to refuel at Nippani turn as I had a half tank left for the ghats.
Long story short - the diversions on the main highway are painful - time and fuel, the complete road passing through Ajara is dug up (both lanes - just a stone and soil surface for a new concrete road is being made), Ajara - Amboli road has some sections under construction and poor surface / potholes in the remainder. I had to switch of the Overdrive in my Ciaz 1.4 AT till I reached Sawantwadi as there were no continous sections of “good” roads where we could maintain constant speed.
I now need to plan for a better return route.
OT - I would really like to understand the thought behind the construction approach of digging up the entire road and hampering the traffic. There were multiple sections which were under construction but had no work being carried out. Maybe due to the festival? I guess infra projects select the the most economical or technical option and not the one which causes the least inconvenience to the public.

Pune-Kolhapur-Belagavi-Khanapur-Anmod-Mollem should be the correct route. However the Khanapur-Anmod section was Work in progress last time I came on this route. People can confirm if the route is good to take. From Karad till Belagavi there was road works on going which may slow you down.

Alternatively the Pune-Karad-Malkapur-Kharepatan route is also available.

It was a 9 hour drive. We took 2 short breaks and a relatively long one. Total break time would be around 1 hour. Started around 9 AM from Balewadi. Reached Cavelossim, South goa at 7 PM

Hi Throttle Head,

Sorry. Bit of a noob question. How does one download a map or a segment of a map to be used later when there is no signal?

Thanks in advance...

Hey,

Open Google Maps on your device, go to settings (usually top right corner) and click on offline maps. Click on ‘Select your own map’ and set the area you want to download and click download. It should then show up in your offline maps section.
