I'm planning to go to Nepal in the first week of September.

1. Does anybody have an idea about the weather over there at that time of the year?

2. Which all places are must visit?

3. I heard about the everest flight. Any idea, how much does it costs?

Planing a trip to Nepal with mum and dad.
suggestions please about places to visit what to miss and what not to
any travel tips etc.

We are more inclined towards natural beauty than temples and stuff.Not too much treking-vecking small distances are ok .

When I went there a few years back I saw:

1)Pashupathinath, Shiva temple on the banks of Bagmathi river. Huge temple, very old, huge courtyard.

2) 2000 year old Buddha temple, lovely views from there, enjoyed visitin it, very Buddhist, very different, very peaceful, must see.

3)Darbar Square: Taka good camera, have lots of space and battery handy, lots of things to shoot, you can go inside the palace and some great carvings; huge square where lots of tourists/ young crowd mill around, very electric on the day I went, just sat quietly for 2 hours there with some friends on top of one of the stages and soaked in the atmosphere. Try it, its truly an amazing experience. Plan for at least half a day here.

4) A stupa for Buddha, about 6-7 KMS; nothing much about it.

5) I could not make it to Pokhra; about 200 kms from Nepal. People say it's one of the most beautiful places in the world, you'd practically be touching the foot-hills of himalayas; I think you'd love it.

6) Mountain Air: The prop plane (Rs.1800/ I think per person) which takes you around Mt. Everest and over many peaks of Himalayas, great experience. They also give a certificate which says "I touched Mt.Everest with my heart" at the end of the flight, would recommend it highly, though a little expensive.

7) The Casinos: Must experience loosing money here, lost 2000/- in about 45 mts, before I stopped; happening places, lots of josh in the air there.

8) The Cabarat Bars: These come alive around evenings and go on till late. Tread lightly here, there are all kinds of bars here and so many; from soft shows to the hard ones. If you have a very liberal family, it may be OK; with a stag crowd with you, pretty exciting.

There are many more places, if you have the time, but the above mentioned ones are a must.

Lots of exciting rafting possibilities, one the best rapids in the world on Boothe Koshi; here's where most Nepali river guides learn and when they can't handle it anymore head for destinations like Shivppuri etc.

Try going to Pokhra lake and do boating there...its nice

Nepal is full of jungles and mountains. Though there are lots of operators who do safari's in the National Parks and reserves, I wouldn't venture out there even if someone says its the safest; believe me, I have real-time intel from people who work in Nepal on a daily basis.

Went to Nepal in Jan 2008. Here are my suggestions:

1. Skip Kathmandu, its just another Indian city. Crowded and whatnot.
2. Head out North to Pokhara or one of the other towns in the foothills of Annapurna range. Spend as much time there as possible.
3. Fly to Kathmandu from Delhi. I took the train through Birgunj and then a taxi to Kathmandu and it took a WHOLE 2 DAYS. The train goes through UP and Bihar so I dont have to tell you it was a nightmare.
4. Take plenty of Rs. 100 notes. Indian 500 Rs. notes were discouraged and very few places were accepting them.
5. If you wanted to do any base camp treks, you need a minimum of 10 days. We were only there 5 days and couldn't do any treks.

First week of september means rains. The monsoon pattern has changed in last few years. We are seeing rains at times when they should have been over. Change your plan and come on 3rd week of September. Nepal is all about mountains and views. The clearer it is the better it is

Visit pokhara. Kathmandu is too crowded. You might want to check Nagarkot or Dhulikhel.

It does not cost much for Nepalese and Indians you can check on buddha air. Welcome to Buddha Air

Buddha air is the best internal airline. They are the best for mountain flights as well.

Nepalken, how much is charged for an Indian car to drive in Nepal? I heard it is some 500 rupees per day?

I have to find out. Earlier it was Nepali Rs 300 per day. 100 INR=160 NRS

Its 489 NRS ( Nepali rupees) per day to keep an Indian registered car in Nepal as on November 2010.

1 Rs Indian = 1.6 Rs Nepali. This exchange rate is fixed, it wont change with international rates, but still Indian currency has more value in Nepal. You will have to buy Indian currency notes, but Nepali currency you can just exchange !
