I plan to start around 7:30 am and will have breakfast before leaving Bangalore. So, Salem seems to be a good option for lunch. Any suggestions for good restaurants/eating places on NH44 around Salem?

Thanks
Pratim

I always stop at Radisson just before Salem city. It has clean restrooms and nice food.

I am not sure about your speed, but keeping the speed around 80-100 range means you can reach Salem in 2.45H-3 hours. If you are going to take multiple breaks then there is a Thalappakatti Biriyani just after the Namakkal toll, it has a Veg restaurant as well. This is around 250Kms from Bangalore.

Karur has Hotel Arunachala, its 50M from the highway.

Then there is a Thalappakatti and Ponram Food square on the Dindigul bypass as well.

These are some of the options that I will prefer for lunch.

Re: Bangalore - Kanyakumari NH7 : Route Queries

As mentioned by Arun, Salem will be bit early for lunch. You can stop at Hotel Valluvar, it's a decent place to have lunch. Vegetarian only though.

Location

Hotel is on your right when driving from Bangalore, cross the hotel and drive ahead for about a KM and you will find a break in divider to take U turn.

The straightfoward NH route bypassing Tirunelveli, Madurai is the best option. Budget about 11 hrs drive from Kanyakumari to Bangalore

For a 8AM start, you can target Dindigul for lunch. It takes around 4-5 hours depending on your speed and number of stops.

If Madurai, you have Hari's restaurant(Veg and Non-Veg), A2B, Temple City etc.

Re: Bangalore - Kanyakumari NH7 : Route Queries

Thanks a lot Arun, ReignofChaos, Suhas and others.

This is the stuff TBHP is made of. Ask a question and sincere replies start pouring in.

You guys have not only settled the question of "where to eat lunch" for my Bangalore-Madurai journey. It also answers the same question for my return journey from Thanjavur - Bangalore.

I am doing a temple circuit: Bangalore-Madurai-Rameswaram-Thanjavur-Bangalore with two nights stay in each of these places. It's only my family and I am the solitary driver.

Love you guys.

Wow! that was fast. I'm planning to do this on the republic day weekend, I was budgeting around 12 hours with stops! How much did the toll cost? are the Fastag lanes available all through the route?

For me it normally takes around 8.5-9 hours with 1 or 2 stops.

Fastag option is available throughout. At the last 4 tolls towards Kanyakumari, they are using manual scanners.

The last time i drove to Kanyakumari from Bangalore, I took 10 hrs 15 min with 1 stop for breakfast and the other for lunch. The total stoppage time for lunch and breakfast came to 1 hr. Left Bangalore by 6 30 AM and reached the hotel in Kanyakumari by 4 45 PM.
The total toll amount is shown below

Apart from Madurai if you wish to stay in Tirunelveli, you can visit the famous Nava Tirupathi temples apart from Nellaiappan Temple.
