Will update this thread with how good this stretch is.
Its a decent route with lots of ups and down. I dont think you will save on time. But for the fun of it, yes its a typical SH with lots of greens thrown around.

I travelled half way and then realized I had taken the Rayakottai instead of Denkanikottai! But for the distance I drove, it was fun.

It is sometime now that I have completed the trip, and some of the roads have changed now because all flyovers are by-passes are complete now. If you need any specific information let me know, other wise its now a 7 hrs drive with not much trouble.

Hi all NH-7 regulars :

Am planning to take the NH-7 from BLR to Madurai sometime end of december.

Just curious to know how many toll booths and how much total toll amount would have to be paid for a journey between BLR & Madurai.

Toll booths and rates between BLR and Nagercoil.
BETL - 35
Attibele - 20
Krishnagiri - 25
Thoppur - 66
Omalur - 53
Rasampalayam - 32
Velanchettiyur - 60
Kodai Rd - 41

Surprisingly, there are no toll booths built yet after Madurai. TVM bound travellers need to pay INR3/- at Amaravila bridge.

The rogues at the check post at Amaravila demand Rs 5 even though the display board shows Rs 3. I had a huge fight with them last month, and proceedings started becoming a little nasty with some ruffians getting into the act, so I ended up paying the Rs 5 and getting a ticket also for Rs 5, never mind it was for the car or some larger vehicle. In any case, the toll ticket appeared to have only advertisements on it!

Anything south of Dindigul, one needs to be careful and not rub off the wrong side of those goons. Most of them are tied up to some ruffian political bigwigs. Recently even Jayalalitha was challenged by some goons.

So HVK saar. Better think twice before pissing any off especially near Madurai.

Entirely agree with you. Several years ago, I had a run-in with a ruffian in the Madurai bypass connecting NH45B with NH7 near Tirumangalam. He demanded some arbitrary sum which I refused to pay, and I simply drove off. Reported him at the next toll gate, the guy there shrugged and appeared to be helpless as though the ruffian was not part of his outfit.

More interesting was the Rs 60 they used to extort in the Bodinayakanur-Bodimedu route just where the ghat starts on its ascent to Munnar when coming from Theni. ON being asked what for is the toll - I have paid this 2-3 times - they used to say that it is "advance" toll for repairing the road! This was going on for years, it is only now that it has stopped.

Seems to me that the South Indian roads are not so safe after all!!! We keep bashing up roads of MP, UP and BR all the time, but even in the states perceived to be "safe", such incidents do happen.
Southies, no offence!!!!

Superfast drive all the way. I myself drove in this stretch last month. Several others have also done so later than that.

Are there any good eateries south of Salem till Dindigul? How about on the road from Dindigul to Kumily?
