This route scares the **** out of me. I took this road while returning back from Kodai. All roads till Sathy was good but the minute i entered Karnataka state all hell broke loose and i almost didn't find a good patch of road till i hit mysore road.

PS : The very next day i took my car to get the wheel alignment and balancing checked. For future travelers please avoid this route.

Places like Chikmagalur will be cooler only for people like me from the coastal plains. Not for Bangaloreans I would say. Yercaud is a good 400 metres higher (than Bangalore) and so should be cooler. But to me the best bet looks to be the less crowded places around Ooty (if there are such places!).

By the way this thread does not belong to the Travelogues section. Mods, please move this to the queries section.

To call Yelagiri a hill station is an immortal sin and mind you kemmungundi is gonna be no different.

There aint much vegetation on the hills surrounding kemmungundi, apart from the grass.Take a look

The only saving grace is Hebbe falls which requires you to tread thru some real rough patches in a jeep.

Waynad may not be a bad option. This is on the way to Kozhikode from Bangalore. ~ 380 Kms.

Bangalore --> Mysore --> Nanjangud-->some forest-->waynad.

More like the Muthanga Forest Range, Bandipur / Mudumalai would be on the road to Teppakadu / Gudalur

Save your money and spend it wisely during the monsoons visiting the western ghats, trust me its worthwhile.
Last year during mid march i was there at chikmagalur. We did enjoy the Bon fire , infact it was too cold during mid night. Not sure how is the weather during april-may.

I can't believe it?

Bhpians recommending not to travel anywhere is shocking. :-) After-all, I was thinking team-bhp is THE place for all travel freaks, isn't it true? All roads out of our Bengaluru and all places that are around will be full of people from here. But that is not going to stop me from going out.

Anyway, Valparai-Topslip-Parambikulam is too far to drive and back on a 3 day holiday. I've been to Wayanad in Summer and it is hot.

Does Chikmagalur have enough facilities (Food, Parks?) to keep me entertained, I'm not sure about that.

I think Mysore will be cooler than Bangalore and in my opinion, no one has ever gone wrong on choosing to visit Mysore & surroundings for the nth time. Isn't it? :-)

Chikmagalur is a good option. But, mind you it will not be cool by any means during daytime, but nights are going to be chilly. By May 1st if it has rained, maybe u'll be lucky & have cooler days.

There are plenty of Estate stays around Chikmagalur where you can stay. It will be worth staying there. If you fancy a more 5 star setup, you have a Taj there.

Well, IMHO I think Mysore may be a little more hotter than Bangalore. I agree no one has ever gone wrong on choosing Mysore for the nth time, but no one goes to Mysore just because it is cooler (or not cooler) than B'lore

Cheers!!

Chikmagalur will be a good option if you plan to stay at the hills. The town will be pretty hot. There are some homestays in the hills. Close to Chikmagalur, Kemmangundi is also a nice option.

Go to Munnar - IMHO its the best hill station out there out of the well known ones. Beautiful roads, beautiful weather and amazing greenery. I did it a week ago and the place was super green.

Just make sure you stay outside munnar town in a good resort. You'd not face any crowd problems either. There's so much to explore - its just mind boggling.
