Hyderabad - Pondicherry : Route Queries

A friend of mine is planning to drive down in an Innova from Hyderabad to Pondicherry.

A short, safe and good roads route with road updates, if possible would be really appreciated.

Also any other pointers are most welcome.

He has to get to Chennai.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ne-2008-a.html

If he is an experienced highway driver then Hyd-Pondi in a day is easy.

I am driving down to Chennai tomorrow. Will update on the Adanki route Friday morning.

You could also explore Hyderabad - Kurnool - Cuddappah - Chittoor - Vellore - Tiruvannamalai - Pondicherry. It should be similar distance.

I did hyderabad to Pondy in November last year. The route i took is Hydererabad-Nalgonda-Nellore-Chennai-Pondy.

The whole route is nice. I started about 04:00 in the morning and reached chennai by 03:00 in the afternoon with breaks for breakfast & lunch. Spent the evening in Chennai and started for pondy the next day.

While returning i wanted to visit tirupati so i took a different route i.e Pondy-tirupati-Cuddapah-Kurnool-Hyderabad.

I enjoyed my my onward drive when compared to return purely because of the road conditions.

Masab Tank, Hyderabad to Adyar, Chennai is about 650 kms.
Route is Hyderabad -> Miryalaguda -> Addanki -> Ongole -> Chennai.

Ongole to Chennai is NH5. Bliss.

Adyar, Chennai -> Pondicherry is under 140 kms.
Very scenic East Coast Road.

I did it in my Santro during May 1 -3
the route which we took was Hyd-Vijayawada-Chennai-OMR-Mahabalipuram-Pondy came close to 950KM overall.

Hyd to Vijayawada - 6 hours
Vijayawada to Chennai entrance 6 hours
from entering chennai and getting to OMR Road took us 2 hours , after we reached OMR , it took 3 hours to reach Pondy.

There are many blind curves and people drive like maniacs on the OMR road, one of the most dangerous roads I've seen, very rash driving.

I would say you can choose the Hyd-VJA-Che-Pondy only reason being after you cross VJA till chennai its a breeze. the RTC and private travel guys take a different route to reach chennai, I think its through nagarjuna sagar, I came once by a bus , its a 2 lane road.

Hope this helps

Hyderabad - Addanki via Miryalaguda.

The road has deteriorated.

I will not use it for my return journey.
Will be checking out the Sagar road instead.

My timings
Left Hyderabad at 1:30 PM.
Addanki at 7:30 PM (Exact 300 kms)
Adyar, Chennai at 12:30 AM (350 kms)

No breaks except for nature(2) and fuel(1) .
