Is it safe to travel to US and Canada now in view of swine flu?

I am planning to leave for US on coming Saturday for a short business tour. Is it safe to travel to US and Canada now in view of swine flu? I am particularly interetsed in knowing whether any of the major IT companies have issued a guidance to their employees on this topic.

Some areas of US are worse off than others. So depending upon where you go, advisory will be different.

As per advisories, it is completely safe if basic precautions are taken.

Even if someone gets affected, this disease is very easily treated. If you want, you can buy meds for it even over the counter in US / UK. That is if you want to keep them handy in advance.

For more information call 1-800-CDC-INFO. That is THE authoritative source.

Most travel policies will cover expenses above $100 if you do get sick.

Nag, I am also travelling to the US on Saturday, and our company HR has so far not issued any travel advisory.

O.T. Are you travelling from Hyd, and if so, which flight? Maybe we can meet up at the airport.

From what I see, it's basically the media blowing something out of proportion again. The swine flu is basically a bad influenza. As long as you don't have respiratory problems, aren't really old, or super young; you'll be fine. In all honestly, I think the swine flu hysteria was started to help jump start the USA economy. Billions of dollars just started flowing because consumers are buying, government agencies are stocking up on meds, anti-virals etc. In preparation comes spending!

Yes, there are travel warnings issued by one MNC I know (not heard any Indian company has done so). It says keep away from Mexico, try to postpone US trips until and unless it is very important and No mention about Europe. So I feel if you have a choice, try to avoid

Try and take prophylactic drugs, if any. Though, best avoided.

Hi In our company (an MNC), the travel advisory says we should avoid travel to South America, USA, France and Spain. Hence avoid the travel if possible.
thanks,
