Feedback on different Self Drive rental agencies

Dear all,

my wife and I wish to go for a road trip from Mumbai to Munnar and Ooty. since i have only 10 days to do this trip, i am considering flying down to Bangalore and hiring a self driven car for the rest of the trip.

I got a quotation from Hertz for a fiesta diesel (the only car rental which i could find that offered self drive cars)
deposit = 30000
insurance = 4500
rental = 2500 * 9 = 22500

other than the fiesta they have the santro (1500 per day), city (same as fiesta) and scorpio (5000 per day). of these the fiesta fitted my requirements quite well. I wish they had a swift or something more exciting to drive but they dont.

I have absolutely no experience with self drive cars. do you think it is a fair deal. also are there other rentals available from which i could book a car from mumbai.

Also could you recommend some really good hotels in munnar (max rent 5000 per day). I have promised wifey a real luxurious stay :-).

also we are planning to start on the 5th. could you please send in your comments/suggestions as quickly as possible.

cheers
Sabya

I would suggest AVIS
Avis
very professional and fair , they have lots of SWIT d's in bangalore, you just have to request in advance

Hertz is not recommended as on two occasions they refused to give the car at final moment even after several confirmation calls.

Thanks Guys.

Called up Avis. they have a swift d available for 2000per day but they have an excess of 50000. in case of any accidental damage or theft they will charge from the deposit upto a maximum of 50000. I was hoping that they offer some sort of insurance that covers me against all losses.

A2B are offering me a verna d for 2000 per day. they have a deposit/excess of 25000. seems a better deal but not sure how reliable they are. do you have any experience with them?

Hi Sabya,
Siena Village in Chinnakanal, Munnar is a super deal for the kind of accomodation u get. It fits ur bill in terms of the tariff too. And add to that the quality of food is very much acceptable.

See my Travelogue on Munnar. Should help.

Don't have any personal experience with them, but do check out this site.

It offers Indica/Santro/WagR for 900 per day, deposit 10000.

Ikon/Indigo/Scorpio/Tavera/Accent for 1650 per day

Lancer/City/Innova for 2000 per day.

I called autoriders to find their tariffs but they have discontinued self drive car rentals. The website has not been updated yet

Feedback on different Self Drive rental agencies

Even though self drive rentals are catching up fast in India, there is a wide degree of variation in the different agencies/service providers that provide self drive cars

I feel we should have a thread where we could consolidate the feedback on them.
Would be great if others could throw in their two cents and get it changed in a sticky

I have so far rented out cars from Eco Rent a Car in Delhi and Hertz in Chennai and here is my feedback:

Name: Eco Rent a Car
City Delhi
Car: Innova
Rating 5 stars
Rental Period 10 days
Comments Thoroughly professional. Hasslefree experience. When we returned the car, it looked as if it has gone through a mud bath (even the roof was covered with mud) . On top of it, we returnmed the car around midnight (and 8 hrs late..we had picked the car in the morning hours 10 days ago)..but they didn't complain one bit
Thoroughly recommended

Name: Hertz (Carzonrent)
City Chennai
Car: Ikon
Rating 4 stars
Rental Period 4 days
Comments
They seemed a bit unprofessional, paperwork glitches and delays during the pickup, and some bit of whining during the return (1 hour late)
But then service quality levels in Chennai are in general considerably worse than other cities, so nothing to crib about too much
Overal, I'd Recommend them

Name : Car Club
City : Bangalore
Car : Innova
Price : 2750/- per day
Rating : 5
Extra time : To be returned within 4 hours of scheduled end, 24x7 open garage

Incase of some eventuality, i had to sign to authorize them to charge upto 25k from my Credit Card.

Very professional. Thorough brief before delivering the vehicle, and complete inspection after return.

This is one of the interesting subject, i was looking forward to.

I read in some member's signature "Best car is the Rented car" !!!
I do not remember his/her name

I look forward to have more info/details about such vendors
in other cities as well.

Please share the contact for this rental. I guess you take it on a full tank and return the same way.
