Had been to Pondy last September, and was put up here:
Jayaram Hotel
2214311
0413 - 2214311 to 16
90, Kamaraj Salai (Pondicherry - Union Territory) - Pondicherry 605 011 - India
Decent place, charged me Rs. 1100 (and since Pondy has no taxes, this is what I paid)
Rooms were clean, and the place had a good AC.

The Chunnambar beach and backwaters is really nice, but the weather I guess would be pretty bad right now. Almost got boiled when I went there last September.

The road from Bangalore to Pondy wasn't great either. Till Krishnagiri is fine since it is GQ, post that it was rather inconsistent (unless they have relaid the roads since then)

On the way back going to Mahabalipuram -> Chennai -> Bangalore would be a good idea as well

Might plan a trip to Pondicherry by 1st week of aug.

Can anyone suggest a place to stay with family (Me, Wifey & 5 month old infant) for a decent accomodation (2-2.5K per night) & which is close to the beach in Ponicherry?

Await revert

Places to eat in Pondy?

I have made a sudden plan to visit Pondy as my son's school is off on this thu & fri. I am looking to stay in a resort, preferable - The Dune hotel (courtesy: Sam's Blog) or club Mahindra depending on the budget.

i need help on the places to eat and shop in Pondy. I dont' want to go to the chennai hotels in pondy and would like to try some good french/european food.

likewise, what are the places to do shopping, buying small gifts and souveniors. Should a bargaining be done?

thanks.

HI All,
We are planning to go pondy this week and looking for recommendations for good hotels in all ranges and also places to visit en route. If anyone of you have travelled recently, kindly suggest options.

Do not stay at Soorya beach resort OMR or for that matter any beach resort at OMR.

Hotel Les Hibiscus | OLD CHARM GUEST HOUSE | Pondicherry Hotel | Pondicherry palace | Pondicherry rest house | Pondicherry Lodges |

Les Hibiscus is my favourite place to stay, its a colonial era guest house.

They normally charge 2.5k for a night, but generally give you a 20% discount on request.

Re: Pondicherry....?

The pricey ones are GRT and Dune. You can also check with them.

There is a very active thread running on BLR-Pondicherry.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...-required.html

The current best possible route :

Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiti-Vellore-Arcot-Cheyyar-Vandavasi-Sothupakkam-Tindivanam-Pondicherry.

Bengaluru, Karnataka to Puducherry, Pondicherry - Google Maps

Re: Pondicherry....?

Inside the city for hotel:
L'escale Pondicherry - Guest House / Boutique Hotel - Rooms & Tariff
. . Ajanthaseaview Hotel Welcomes you . .

Resort, on ECR 8km from Pondichery:
Pondicherry Hotel,Pondicherry Hotels in Pondicherry,Resort in Pondicherry,Beach Resort in Pondicherry India,Pondicherry Resorts

I stayed at lescale which is little away from the beach but that ensures it does not get too noisy on weekends, the experience was good, they give utmost importance to service & cleanliness.

You can get in touch with Patricia Smith for bookings. Le Club and Asian lounge is close by, you want want to visit

Ampere,

What are your views on going straight through after Sothupakam, avoiding Tindivanam and hitting ECR at Odiyur (via Sothupakam, on Cheyyur, Vandawasi, Polur road) ?

Reason also for asking is we'll be staying at the dune and it does look reasonably north compared to Pondicherry town, so an approach from the North side may be shorter avoiding crowded city roads ?

thanks,
Subbarp

Hi, I think its still may not be worth it.

I just checked in Google maps. The difference comes about 15-20km.
Also I don't know about the road condition is from Odiyur to Sothupakkam,
@Gopikb may know about it. We should check with him as well.

May be it might be fun to try just a different route.

Re: Pondicherry....?

Re-igniting this thread after a decade.

I will be shifting to Pondicherry (University) soon. Would like to know about the traffic conditions in general and also reliable service centres for my Honda Mobilio I-VTEC
