Hi Guys,

I am planning a long drive on 15th August and I was just wondering if its ok to drive and cross different state borders on National Holidays.

Papa is saying that its not a good idea to travel on 15th August as borders are sealed and there will be huge jams caused by trucks due to the same + different security check posts inside the cities.

BHPians please share your experiences of travelling on 15th August, 26th January and 02nd October .

I feel 02nd October should be least troublesome as celebrations are not that extensive.

Your thoughts and experiences please.

Bros,

Please share your experiences, I need to finalize the plan.

No problems at all. Makes no difference. There may be some extra police checks, but that is also mostly in and around large cities only. Go for it!

Yes, no issues. You will have more issues on local leaders birthday, some death anniversary, political meeting etc than these national holidays :)

The nightmare (in the NCR at least) starts from around 5.30-6.00 pm on the 14th of August at the Delhi-Gurgaon border. You are correct, 2nd October is far less of an issue.

Where are you planning to drive to? Is it a family outing or more of friends?

Exactly 13th or 14th night (extnd weekend) might be a problem leaving out of the city. But otherwise in the day time I never faced any problems.

I am scared of getting on NH on Holi and Deepavali

Too many drunk idiots on the road.
Esp Holi. When they try to throw water and color powder as you ride by them.

Plus the number of triple riders gets very high and they are also very high.

I am planning to go to Dehradun with my family i.e. Wife, Son, Father and Mother.

Its just that my Dad is a bit apprehensive of travelling on 15th August.

Well, I can't blame him. Our NCR police force is not always the most customer friendly, especially on these days.

But since you're travelling as a family, you won't be stopped or checked unnecessarily. I think it's OK to go to Dehra Dun, if you leave early morning you should be fine.

Thank you so much Simon, its just that we don't want to spend a Holiday on NHs waiting for the traffic to clear up.

Thats one reason why i'm planning to leave for Chandigarh on 13th night instead of 14th morning !!

My experience is quite the opposite. I have travelled on GQ on both Deepavali and Holi. The roads are far less populated on these days(more fun to drive). The problem you mentioned probably applies more to city/town roads and "smaller" highways.

Absolutely no problems. On the contrary, you would find the HWs pretty much empty as there is every chance that commercial traffic would be less on holidays.Have a good trip :)

Just a play of words.
The number of riders indulging in triple riding is quite high compared to normal times.
The number of riders who are high (drunk/ stoned) is also higher compared to normal times.

:) I better stop reading this James Clavell book(Shogun), with half the stuff in Japanese written in English script.
