Dear TBHP members,

How long would it take to drive through Goa ? We would be on our way from Ratnagiri ( 10am start ) to Karwar with brief ( just see ) stopovers at Vagator beach, fort and palolem beach ( sunset possible ? ) in the first week of Oct.

Please advice on road conditions and traffic conditions.

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Rao

All the roads are two lanes and not much opportunities for overtaking. My guess would be 5-6 hrs minus the stop at beaches and fort.

Well the straight road from Patradevi to Polem in the south is around 160kms,which can be covered in around 3hours.Patradevi is the Goa-Maharashtra Border town on NH17.A diversion to the right to Vagator from Mapusa on NH17 would offset by an hour at the maximum(inclusive of spending time at Vagator). From Vagator, dont come back to NH17,instead take the interior road through North Goa which would enable you to see Anjuna,Baga,Calangute,Aguada(light house before 5pm)(if you decide to go an extra km from the turn off for Panjim) and then rejoin NH17 just before the Mandovi bridge at Panjim. All the mentioned beaches are around 10-15 mins from each other in the same order. From thereon its one straight road till Karwar, except the turn off for Palolem.

If you do get on the Beach say bye bye to your schedule :D

And if you enter any shacks/restaurants you better stay over and continue the next day.

+1 on that. I can never stop by any beach. It usually results in extended stay:)

The very idea of going to Goa itself is to mostly hang out in the numerous beaches out there and sample a bit of everything that is available on offer, isnt it ? :D

To answer the question, a drive from the northernmost point of Goa to the tip of Goa in the south should take you around 4 hours relaxed, around 2 1/2 hours if you are in a tearing hurry !

Thank you all

Detailed account ! thank you ! Do we have good signages from mapusa ( NH17 ) to vagator ? Later on , where do we turn off from NH17 towards Palolem ?

Its tempting !! to drive on the interior roads towards the other beaches but we need to be at Karwar latest by 8pm.

Yes good signages on NH17 for Vagator.Keep looking for signages after Mapusa and you would reach there.Else just stop by and ask anybody and they would be happy to help.

Ask for Palolem beach after Margaon or at Canacona.Margaon to Palolem would be around 35-40kms.

satisfying info there, ranjitp1. Thank you

...will post pics and log on return.
