Agumbe: Route queries, information, and tips

We are planning a trip to Agumbe this weekend and do some photography. Would welcome any info on the weather and situation there.

Thanks.

It's raining in Malnad region as of now. Also nights are cold these days so be prepared with Sweaters, Jackets, caps, shawls, blankets also as you doing some photography, take gumboots(rain shoes) with umbrella/Jackets.
Be careful about Leeches.

Yesterday, I have returned from Shimoga via., Mandagadde, Thirthahalli, Agumbe, Karkala to Mangalore. It is raining heavily and visibility is poor. If you are getting down from the car in Agumbe ghat section, please apply thin coat of kerosine or Eucalyptus oil to your feet to prevent leach bites.
Take care & goodluck.

sushrutha +1

Zaks;
Also include some protective gears for your Gadgets (Camera & Lens) as repairing a water damaged lens is not so easy

A very old thread got bumped I passed through Agumbe last weekend. Teerthahalli, Megaravalli, Agumbe, Someshwara region is getting good rains now. I presume it would be raining near Sagar, Jog Falls as well (water flow would be good in falls). Road condition is good throughout. But, visibility might be poor due to mist in evening/night near Agumbe. This pic was taken at 4 PM at Agumbe:

Hey 370Z,

Appreciate your response. Could you please suggest any good motels to your knowledge for family stay when one vists Agumbe. Most of the travelougues i read have them in shimoga whcih is quite far. I know Agumbe starves for good stay near by and I am not expect anything nearer than 30km.

@cogweelz: My friend visited Agumbe quite some time back. I recollect him talking about a certain home-stay by name "Dodda Mane", and he seemed to be very satisfied with the quality of the stay and food. It's not a fancy motel/hotel, but a decent budget accommodation. There are a lot of positive reviews about this place. Please do check once if this is sufficient for you and your family.

Guys ,

I had been to Agumbe Previous year with my wife, and stayed in Doddamane.
Its pretty near to Bus stand.
Its run by a dear old lady Kasturi Akka, (08181-233075).
That was the best experience we had in Agumbe
It is a two storied home , where most of R.K Laxman's 'Malgudi Days' were shot.
She doesn't demand any Tariff, just accepts whatever the patrons presents her with.
If you are going with Family this would be a better place in Agumbe.
You have IB (Inspection Bunglao) and some other hotel across the bus stand.
Do let me know if you need any more details.

Thank you TheHkrish for the description. Lately there was a update in plan. we have 3 more couples joining us and hence Doda mane will not be feasible.

Currently we are eying on the vihamba resorts (http://www.vihangamaholidayretreat.c...tage1.html#vhr). Any ideas on that? also I am open to any similar accomodations.

I remember reading good reviews about Vihangama:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...-charmadi.html
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...kend-trip.html

You may also check Sitanadi Nature Camp operated by forest dept at Someshwara. A private company conducts rafting at this camp. I've been there twice only for rafting via Adreno.org. Nature camp booking is via Hebri/Someshwara RFO, phone: 08253-250005. Not sure if folks at Adreno.org can do camp booking as well.

Thanks Guys,

Yes we did go for Vihangama. That place is AWESOME..nothing but a fantabulous place to be. I recommend it 100% for everyone who wants to have a great food and stay when you are visiting Agumbe. I simply loved the hospitality and ambience. Its a family run stuff but is completely professional to the last word.

@370Z : Yes we really wanted to do the rafting but we were not aware of it untill we reached there and hence the itinerary could not accomodate. The trip was quite adhoc and the members adding up day by day the planning dept was bit hasty. But I am sure we will go for Vihangama again only for Rafting and the Kodachadri trek.

I am considering Shivamogga-Tirthahalli-Agumbe-Someshwara-Halady-Kollur for a Bangalore Kollur trip. I heard Agumbe ghat section was getting relayed, it will be great to know if this is completed by now.
