Cochin to Valparai/Parambikulam road and accommodation

Dear BHPians,

We are planning a trip from cochin to parambikulam or valparai for 3 days and 2 nights. We will be driving a 2X2 Scorpio - 2005 model.

In most of the websites the route given is via Pollachi. But in the team BHP site read many travelogues about the scenic athirappally-sholayar-valparai route.

Has anyone travelled through this route recently? What is the condition of the road and how much time it will take? Will this route be risky if it rains? Which route will you suggest?
And is there a similar route from cochin to parambikulam, via Athirappally?

What is the distance between valparai and parambikulam?
Which place is better for a short break from hectic work?
Saw few great pictures of treehouses in Parambikulam. Has anyone been there recently. Is it well maintained?
Are tree-houses available at valparai?

Sorry, no idea about the road conditions now. But whatever the conditions, this is a beautiful drive. No mobile signals for 70+ kms, though!

The route is Cochin-Angamaly-Chalakudy-Athirampally falls-Valpaarai.
Pls note that Athirampally falls to Valpaarai road is narrow & deserted, avoid a night drive due to wild animals, especially elephants

Chalakudy-Valparai, 110 kms
Valparai-Pollachi, 65 kms

Normally the Chalakudy-Valparai road remains in modestly good condition even after the rains. No idea of its present condition.

Pollachi-Top Slip is around 35 kms.
Parambikulam is further 10-15 kms down, in Kerala.

Tree houses are hired out by Kerala Forest Dept.

FYI, as of last month when I was passing through, the initial 25-30 Kms of road from Malakkiparai to Chalakudi was extremely bad.

We plan to make a circuitous trip from Coimbatore via Valparai, Top-slip, Athirampally, Parambikulam, Indira-Gandhi national park on TN side, Peechi-Dam, Guruvayur, Palakkad and back to CBE. Maybe 3 days trip, max 4-days. Please suggest places to stay, eat. What are the ways we can visit the national parks? Guides/Stay/Treks in the parks? Any other places worth including in the above list and on the path?
