Re: Advice required to travel from Pune to Bhopal

Hi friends
Planning a Pune-Bhopal-Pune return trip next month. Searched for it and came across this thread although there are other threads for Pune-Indore routes as well.
Has anyone travelled on this in the last month or so....saw various route options:-
1. Pune - Ahmednagar - Dhule - Indore (to Bhopal)
2. Pune- Sangamner - Dhule - Indore (to Bhopal)
3. Pune - Nashik - Dhule - Indore(to Bhopal)
Any suggestion from the above, or any other option, considering current road conditions/weather etc.?
I will be aiming for a 5 am start with family and intend to reach Bhopal on same day.

- This is the best option.
- Rough sections in and around Shirdi. Please go past them very early. Really helps
- Beyond that its smooth sailing.

is there a log book or some detail available for reference...just to mark petrol pumps, toll booths, restaurants etc... and the approx distances between places on this route?

Re: Advice required to travel from Pune to Bhopal

@JoshMachine,

I am planning to drive Pune - Bhopal during the Christmas break, too. You can find the posts in Pune - Indore thread.

I am planning to split up the drive as Pune - Thane - Indore - Bhopal, so that I can take it little easy, and I would avoid Pune - Nashik stretch as well.

Here are indicative distances - courtesy google maps:

Home Shirur 75
Shirur Ahmednagar bypass 51
Ahmednagar bypass Kopargaon 98
Kopargaon Manmad 45
Manmad Malegaon Bypass 37
Malegaon Bypass Dhule Bypass 48
Dhule Bypass Shirpur phata 59
Shirpur phata Sendhwa bypass 46
Sendhwa bypass Dhamnod bypass 77
Dhamnod bypass Indore 90

Indore - Bhopal 190

Here is the link for Indore - Pune thread for completeness!

Pune-Shirdi-Indore-Bhopal route is good as you might already know. Plenty of facilities. At night you can do Indore to Bhopal in 2.5 Hours and in day time you need 3-3.5 Hours atleast.

Thanks sschivate! I have jumped on that thread now and found it very useful...given that many people do travel Pune-Indore quite regularly.
Do post your journey data once you are back from the Christmas trip.

Help to decide a midway stopover in my return journey of Pune-Bhopal-Pune

BHPians - need your expert guidance...come this April, I am taking a road trip, in my beloved SX4, from Pune to Bhopal. Taking clue from various travelogues here and google maps, I have finalized my outward journey to be Pune - Ahmadnagar - Kopargaon - Manmad - Malegaon - Dhule - Shirpur - Sendhwa - Indore - Bhopal.

I am still unclear of the route of my return journey due to a couple of reasons -
1) lot of drive, being the lone driver with hardly any rest, I would have done before embarking on the return while I visit a lot of relatives across Barwah, Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Raisen, Bareli;
2) my old parents would be with me and more than my tiredness I am essentially worried about their's.

Hence I was thinking to break the return journey. My plan is to start from Bhopal by late morning of 8/April reach some midway by evening, stop over at a good (luxurious if possible because of parents) hotel and start for Pune by noon.

I need your suggestions if my above plan of break journey makes sense and also places where I can stop over.

I had initially thought of making a stay at Yawal Sanctuary but was not very sure of accommodation. Jalgaon and Aurangabad were my next thoughts, though Aurangabad would be around 600 kms from Bhopal and my preference would be 400-500 kms at the most.

Please let me have your thoughts.

The usual route is :

Pune-Nagar-Shirdi-Malegaon-Dhule- Mhow-Indore-Bhopal

Cant say which is a better place to break. Indore would have been good, but dont know if you can make it till Indore on day one.

My dad is currently in Shirpur. If you want, I can ask him to check some hotels for you personally. Shirpur is about 400 kms away from Pune so that should be the ideal spot for a break. If not, I might also suggest Dhule. Its a district and I have halted at a couple of places while doing Pune (work) to Indore (home) on my bike. Pm me if required.

@DevilzzzzOwn - thanks a ton, Shirpur seems to be a very good suggestion. Don't worry, please do not bother uncle. By the way, Pune to Indore would have been quite a ride 'on a bike'.

I still do it as long as I have 3 days off work together. Just love to spend time on the road, alone, cruising, wind in my hair (through the visor crack naturally). I even went to Cape Comorin and back to Pune in 5 days in 2012. Will write a travelogue when I find my pen drive with the snaps.

Awesome...where in Pune are you based?
With this drive in April, I will be starting on a series of long drives. Have had very few in the past. That love for very long drives has sort of reincarnated in me.

Narmada Retreat at Maheshwar is good place to break, though you have to do a little of detour but if you are going to Barwah, Maheshwar will be on Barwah - Maheshwar - Dhamnod route, dhamnod you join NH3. Besides there is one road side motel of MP tourism in Dhamnod itself.

I currently reside at Nanded City, Sinhgad Road.
Been to various places near Pune on my bike numerous times. Places like Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar are frequent chai-spots.
