Team-BHP - Suggestion for 3 day trip with Family in Karnataka or Tamilnadu

I'm confused here to choose my destination, and the option for selecting my destination giving entirely to you guys.

Please help me to select various places in these state .Date chosen for the trip is from 16-18 October 2009.

If possible give me some feed back about the hotels too

Looking for hill stations, beach resorts or some other type of place?

Have met people who've been to Yercaud and Coonoor in TN and have heard good reports about these places. Have been planning to go to both but not made it yet.

Yercaud probably won't be as crowded as Ooty or Kodaikanal.

We have been going to a resort called The Dune at Pondicherry. Have had lots of fun there. We as a family love dogs and this resort has some very friendly pets, so that was an added bonus. The atmosphere is relaxed and food is good. Website - Dune, The Dune Hotel, Eco Beach Hotel, Eco Tourism - Wanacom, Welcome and Bienvenue.

Guys Decided for a Bangalore - Chennai - Pondicherry.
Unfortunately i have some work in Chennai so only 1 day can be alloted to Pondicherry. Can you tell me best places of interest in pondicherry which i can cover in 1 day (Sunday 18th October).

After an year or so, my parents are coming to Bangalore. I am going to take a week or so vacation in Ist week of November.

I need your advice on any good locations where we can spend peaceful time together. Preferably related to nature, greenery, water/wildlife, temples n good food. :)

Please do share info on travel agent/agency, expected cost(s) and any points to take care of for the trip.

I'm looking at a 2 night stay close to Chennai but secluded enough for privacy and 'to get away'. Looking at Mahabs or ECR, but am a little skeptical as on the internet they all look good - but reviews state bad toilets and nagging staff, etc. My budget is about 5000 Rs (only!) for the 2 nights. A cottage or something a little different will be fine.
A better option looks to be Pondicherry.
Can any of you suggest specific hotels or resorts in Mahabs or Pondy?
