Re: Weekend Getaways from Pune

Does anyone know about the formalities for civilians to visit NDA?

Read it in may places that they allow civilians for a guided tour of NDA on Sunday's, however no info if any prior permission is required.

Re: Weekend Getaways from Pune

I sure wish there are more postings in this thread, this thread can act as a single one for any references around Pune.

It was refreshing to read about Tulapur, the wildlife sanctuary near Baramati as I had never heard of these places despite the umpteen discussions on weekend getaways from Pune over the years.

I'd definitely like to add 'Slope of Hell' to the above list that might appeal all BHPians. It is near Talegaon where a few bikers have attempted to make a way out of a mountain. You might find a few videos on YouTube regarding this.

I guess there is a lot more to explore on the Nashik side of the city, i.e. malshej, Bhandardara, Kalsubai peak, etc.

Hi ashishmathur14,
Thoseghar near Satara is a good place to visit during the rainy season. There is a beautiful waterfall and a few windmills too.

Or you can go to Tamhini Ghat to the west of Pune. I hear of big crowds and traffic problems here on holidays or weekends.

Planning to visit Chalkewadi Windmills and Thoseghar waterfall in the next few weeks. Any recent experiences from anyone to share?

Also, would be good to know about some good overnight stay options in the area, will be travelling with family.

I would wait for till mid July/end July to visit Thoseghar falls. Right now its not rained a lot for the falls to be in full flow.

I had stayed at The Fern, Satara which is right on the highway. Good food and a comfortable stay
