The place is awesome after the monsoons. Some cross links to collected snaps

Looking for a short drive with family + having some good Non-Veg food. Any such places in a range of 75-100Kms from Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore?

Why don't you check Cauvery FishingCamp after Kanakapura?Unless you have already visited. It is around 100 kms from Bangalore and the fishfood there I heard is good (I guess now fishing is banned). Weekends are crowded as any other place. You can Google and check on how to go about booking since the place is run by KSTDC as far as I know.

May not be right time to go if you are interested in fishing as water in the river will be more. Even if you are not a fishing enthusiast, the camp is a nice place to chill out.

re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

I had posted some suggestions in the trekking thread
They are not fully trekking places (light walk or climb small hillocks maybe). But of course easily accessible.

Though above 150 KM from Bangalore, a drive to Hogenakkal waterfalls will be great this time. After rains is the best time to see the falls in full glory.

The closest I would suggest is Ramdevarbetta on the Mysore road at Ramnagaram. Perfect recipe for a picnic. Enjoy good views like what you see below. Once done drive to Kamat, eat and come back.

Yes, completely agree. I did my engineering in Ramnagaram and we used to frequent this place (Sholay hill as it is called since Hindi film Sholay was filmed there).
Couple of things to be careful though, the small lake on top of the hill looks very inviting, however please dont try swimming or getting in to the lake since the granite surface is very slippery. Many people has drowned in the lake trying to take a dip after the climb of around 600 steps.

Not sure about the situation now, previously (~8 years back) it used to be an issue to park any vehicle at foot of the hill. Parking space was at plenty, but the kids from neighbouring village used to play with parked bikes & cars.

I have heard of this place, Mekedatu. For a day outing/picnic (with family), is it a good option? How is the road condition (NH209 - Kanakpura - Mekedatu ?) ?

The road is pretty decent. You should have good water now. Last week I went along the 209 beyond Shivasamundaram/Kollegal. There seemed quite some water in Cauvery. I think its worth a visit. You can also try Chunchi falls. Its on the same road Kanakpura-Sangam/Mekedatu

A couple of pointers :

re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Last weekend (Saturday), I along with wifey visit Devarayana Durga hills. Started from my home near Marathalli around 12:30 PM. Followed google maps and went through Tumkur. While returning, joined NH-4 at Dabaspet (bypassing Tumkur). A few photos :

1. NICE road was not so crowded, considering a Saturday.

2. NH-4 was also devoid of traffic. Somewhere before Dabaspet:

3. Beautiful roads started just after crossing Tumkur.

4. Stopped at Namada Chilume on the way. Its a beautiful park.

5. After a brief ghat section, reached Devarayana Durga. Did not climb the stairs to the temple. Instead, relaxed at the 'parking zone' and soaked in the view.

6. While returning, we saw a beautiful lake, a little away from the road.

Kanva reservoir is on the exit just before the railway over bridge after Kamat Lokaruchi on the Mysore road.

Not necessary to go all the way to Tumkur if headed to Devarayandurga from Bangalore - you can turn right near Dabaspete (I think this is the route you took on your return). This road is in good condition and one can also go to Namada Chilume, Shivaganga, etc from this route as well.
At Devrayanadurga, the climb is not much (stairs are very well laid out) and would have been good to go to the hilltop temple. You can always drive again, maybe even to view sunrise sometime, check out the travelogues section.
