Ohh, sorry didn't update here. Actually I wrote the trip log in another thread:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travelogues/70033-yelagiri-trip-few-pictures.html

Weather was great with short spells of rain, and the road conditions are mast too!

If you want a place which has good place to dine and stay then try of the below one day trips desitinations. All the below destinations are along Cauvery river and within 150Km from Bangalore.
  1. Bheemeshwari Fishing Camp
  2. Galibore fishing Camp
  3. Doddamakali Fishing Camp
You can either make a day visit or stay overnight in one of these places through Jungle Lodges and Resorts. You can also try other properties of JLR which are good places and worth the price.

Few other regular tourist attractions are Ranganathittu and Srirangapatnam towards Mysore which can be done in one day within the your time frame.

Only problem with JLR is that you can never make an instant decision of driving to any of these places. They are always booked. You need to book in advance, which kind of spoils the fun. Because for a distance of 150-200Km you dont want to book 2 months in advance.

Any more details on this place? Never heard about it. Pardon my ignorance.

About 130 km from Bangalore. Nice , placid lake and some old temples. See Pandavapura - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I'm planning on a visit tomorrow, will post on a travelogue after returning.

Thanks all for your inputs. we are now beginning to get more info on places near Bangalore.

@sdp1975- do update a link in this thread on your trip to Pandavapura.

I did a search on Team-BHP, Could not find any travelogues on Kokkare bellur/ Korrebellur about 80km from Bangalore in Mandya District. It seems best time to visit is between Feb and May when migratory birds flock this village and its surroundings. A couple of my friends told me about this place and it seems storks walk about freely in the village and nobody bothers them:

Kokrebellur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I had a real funny incident about Kukrebellur. It was the month of August/September (I think !). The year 2000. Those were the days when I was a parasite passenger (always on the backseat or the sideseat).

On a weekend we were having our brunch at the famous Manipal hospital canteen at 9AM, when someone mentioned why not motor to Kukrebellur. On a whim we started. I had never heard about it then.

So we all started on 4 bikes and drove till Maddur and asked for directions to Kukrebellur. We hit the correct road and saw a huge lake. We passed the lake but the sanctuary was nowhere to be seen. Just in the nick of time, I asked a villager, where is the santuary? He replied the tree next to where we were standing is the place.

It was one huge tree and I could see lots and lots of bird-droppings, which at least corroborated, what the guy was saying. But there was not a bird in sight. We went around that place and after treating ourselves to a great laugh, we came back to the lake. We enjoyed the serene silence for about an hour and came back all the way. The only visit to a bird sanctuary with no birds (I think it was not the season).

For a long time I still kept on thinking that the villager had duped us. But the memory faded away and it still remains a question mark ! :D

@ampere - Yes, guess it was just the wrong season. May you can try this year : - )

Here are two excellent and informative travelogues for Melkote, one by Hotstuff and the second one by Snaronikar

For folks, with some railway passion and light trekking, you can try the Makali Durga. In an answer to querry on a post, I had posted some snaps also. Here is the link:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...-day-trip.html

Makali is a station on Hyderabad mainline after Dodbellapur (I guess about 70-80KM in total from Bangalore). You need to drive to the station, park your car (I hope its safe, I have done it) and start walking on the railway track for about 2KM, towards the HYD side. You will hit the base of the hill, and would be greeted by the Makali temple. Beyond the temple starts the trek to the top of the hill. It looks like a true setting of a dacoit movie :D!

Its one hell of a fun. If you start early morning, you can be back at Yelahanka by about 3-4 in the evening. The view from the top is stunning. The day we went there was hardly any sun. Hence it was not to hot.

Need to carry food; nothing good on the way.
