This is how it looked in towards the Madhyaranga temple side. ![]() One different note, its been some time since have written about any place. Had been to Avalabetta the usual biker's paradise some years back. Then they used to allow vehicles all the way to the top. I hear these days they have stopped. The usual early morning road, once you divert from the wide highways ![]() Some where on the way saw this golden light ![]() ![]() Kids en-route to school ![]() Once you make way to the top, the views depend on the light. Sometimes they just pan out brilliant, sometimes just about OK and some times you cant see a thing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This small water body on the top is a nice touch of nature ![]() The Bhairasagar lake and the Gudibande fort is another add on to this visit. But depends on time. The lake view is again very nice. ![]() Last edited by ampere : 8th August 2020 at 21:23.

![]() Are these places off bounds now ? A friend looked up Avalabetta couple days ago and told me Google maps shows the place as closed.

All places are showing up as closed because of Covid I guess. What I hear is they have barricaded the road to the top at the base. |

Yes, could be. However, @ankan's post yesterday (7th August) mentions a visit to Dandiganahalli. Last edited by NPV : 8th August 2020 at 21:29. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Since the weather has been amazing decided to go for a small picnic and drive with family to some place outskirts of bangalore. We packed food and I decided the below route. Kadugodi - Makali Durga - Madhugiri - DD Hills - Kadugodi I had ridden on this same very route last week with a friend of mine, so thought best to enjoy with family this weekend. Started at around 8:30 am and reached Makali Durga as the roads are well laid, had breakfast at gunjur lake with beautiful surroundings. Same photo different perspectives. ![]() ![]() Mom, Kid and Wife having a nice time at lake ![]() Someone enjoying a nice cup of tea next to the lake, God bless AWD ![]() Customary Nariyal Pani ![]() Next was a stop near madhugiri for kiddo to do some trekking, some beautiful winding village roads and a scenery which would want to make you stop every 10 kms. Roads are very well laid. The long winding roads, and a view from mid of the trek. This is very close to Madhugiri town. ![]() A view of the other side with the Mark 13 and the only thing about the bike I could carry this week. ![]() Finally stopped for lunch near a lake before DD hills. A drone shot (Screenshot from a video I took) ![]() The best friend who took us along. ![]() We could not go up DD hills as it started pouring, total distance travelled 248 kms, total driving time 4 hrs and 45 mins. Few pics from same route, but with blue skies, this was last week on my bike. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by AtheK : 10th August 2020 at 17:06. |

I am also looking forward to a good drive this weekend. Do you mind sharing if there were any decent pit stops on the way - for those impromptu loo break tantrums which my kiddo throws up ![]()

For the kiddo well when in nature, ask the nature for help ![]() On a serious note you get tolls on the road, total of 3 one side, i did not observe at the other two, but i am guessing they will have toilets too. Last edited by AtheK : 10th August 2020 at 18:13.

This is another lake, this is gunjur lake which is near Makalidurga, just after the toll. The other one is around 9 Kms before DD hills, it will be on your left if coming from Madhugiri, look for Essar petrol pump. |

| ![]() Planning to drive down to Chunchanakatte falls over this weekend. Which is the better route? Through Mysore road or Tumkur road? I do not mind 20 kms more as long as the roads are good. Is it possible to drive down the entire distance or do we need to walk the last bit? Any eateries around that place? Thanks in advance ![]() |

![]() Google shows the travel time is lower via the Tumkur road even though the distance is longer. That explains!

| ![]() Me and two other friends went to Shivanasamudra Barachukkhi falls. Water flow was good if not great, as water release from KRS & Kabini were reduced in last few days due to less rains in catchment areas. But we enjoyed it though. At the entrance of barachukki view point main gate, they were doing temperature check for everyone in the car. That's all. The drive was good and of course road construction is going on in Kanakapura-Malavalli in several stretches with diversions. -Ravi |

| ![]() Did a quick 400 km drive to Holenarasipura, K.R Nagara and surrounding areas which has some of the best roads in Southern Karnataka. I used to drive around these areas 6 years back and the roads were awesome those days. The quality of the roads has only improved now. Took the NH-75 to reach Channarayapatna and then took all the internal roads and joined back NH-75 at Bellur Cross. We packed lunch for the drive. All the restaurants on NH-75 were open but didn't want to take any risks. Also stopped only at places where no one was there. The internal roads which I took: Channarayapatna - Haradanahalli - Halekote - Holenarasipura - Bherya - Kattahalli - Bookanakere - Chinakuruli - Bellale - Nagamangala - Bellur Cross. The roads were exceptional except for the 4 km stretch which is under construction between Bherya - Kattahalli. Also noticed that the Holenarasipura - Hassan road (SH-57) is getting converted to a 4 lane highway and looked wider than NH-75: ![]() At Mavinakere near Haradanahalli: ![]() ![]() KRS backwaters between Bherya - Kattahalli: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by guyfrmblr : 15th August 2020 at 19:07. |

| ![]() Hi guyfrmblr, When did you take this drive? I am planning to visit KRS backwaters tomorrow. Is it worth going there? Are there any restrictions on entry? |
