I was also there yesterday (Sunday) at Gunjur lake.

I saw your car actually, as you headed to the picnic spot. You car can be seen here:

I was in the blue S Cross parked closer to the exit:

It was a nice break from being stuck at home; spotted some birds, flew a kite, and saw my son's football float away:

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Guys please do help by adding google map locations to these places. Other BHPians will greatly benefit with how to access and where to go to avoid crowds.

Also, I know by giving the location we are inviting more crowds but I'm sure BHPians are responsible when visiting such places and don't ruin the experience.

Could you help guide on the specific locations for the best views of the backwaters, your posts gave a nice idea, but not able to get specifics from maps? Appreciate the help.

Planning to drive this Sunday

Added bonus would be Sunset from https://goo.gl/maps/4xGwNxnJ4JaErgC26 if skies are clear.

That is the car; we are standing to the right, mainly watching the kids skipping stones.

Sharing the location of the Lake: https://goo.gl/maps/k5ErJQiY6o7pi3rAA

If going from Bangalore, and you put Gunjur Lake in Google Maps, you will get a Gunjur Lake close to Marathahalli/Whitefield area.

It would be better to put another location close to THE Gunjur Lake (such as Doddaballapur or Ghati Subramanya temple) and then search for Gunjur lake, when you are closer.

Just after the toll booth, you will see a row of shops on your right (behind which is the lake); immediately after which there is a mud road leading down to the lake (when the road starts curving). You can go straight ahead and get a big patch of level ground; else take a right and keep going till the end, where there is a big meadow with lots of empty space.

Some vehicles can get stuck, especially if you drive in the grass/muddy portions; so, please void these patches.

Clean toilets are available at the toll booth, if required.

PS:
1. Please take bags to get rid of any trash and do take care to leave a pristine scene for the others.
2. If you are into kites, it is a perfect location to try your kite flying skills; windy and no trees around.
3. If you find an orange/blue ball in the lake and are able to retrieve it, please PM me. My son would like to get the ball back.

This is the exact location where I went - https://goo.gl/maps/CRK6qbC5z7fkag9Y7

There are multiple routes to reach that place but my personal favorites are:

1. Direct route which Google maps suggests - https://goo.gl/maps/VWp92ex9dYhKrJU47.
2. There is a 3 km bad stretch in the direct route which can be avoided by driving through Melukote - https://goo.gl/maps/f8kELJb3AKagPeVN9.
3. Through KR Pete. I haven't done this route recently but then entire stretch was in excellent condition 5 years ago and I don't see any reason it would have deteriorated as the roads around that region are usually in pristine condition - https://goo.gl/maps/EV1uLTEEnsMGGV8u5.
4. Longer route through Holenarasipura (There is a 3 km under construction stretch after Bherya) - https://goo.gl/maps/BwJvQ8aQAgpVtZub6.
5. Holenarasipura route with an additional 10 km scenic route (highly recommended) - https://goo.gl/maps/bQz7GmJT6w2UUjr19.

Did not quite get it. This is the location the google maps link points to and its near Whitefield. Is this not the one?

Ghati Subramanya temple seems to be in a different direction!

This gunjur lake is the one closer to Ghati Subramanya as clarified by Aiel.

I had copied the wrong link from GMaps. Re-sharing with the correct link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xk7M9DRtaT7KFcMs5

I think your initial link was right. But, when I click Directions it was 'defaulting' to the Gunjur lake near Whitefield like you mentioned.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Cool Drives within 150 km from Bangalore

Markonahalli dam, off NH 75, can be a pleasant getaway. Its around 110 kms from whitefield.

I made a visit last weekend. The environs are lush and pristine. The dam was well maintained but the park below it needs some attention. The dam is well worth a visit when its full of water.

+1

You can continue further on the road around the dam and you will find few spots where you can drive upto the water. Nice place to enjoy the sunset.

Thanks. We will try that next time.

We also planned to drive upto a small hilltop temple visible from the dam towards the east, but had to turn back as it was already dusk and the road to it was deserted. I was informed that the temple is closed but cars can be driven to the top. It should be a nice view from there.

This is the location of the temple.
